蛮珈夢 — Restaurant in Onomichi

The unobtrusive entrance at the side of a busy road between Onomichi and Higashi Onomichi gives no indication of the treasure behind the doors. "Bankamu" is currently in its 42nd year in the care of it's owner, Mr. Kanemoto.

To be clear, I know pitifully little about the deep world of coffee, but I understand when I'm in the presence of great work. There is nothing besides coffee available for purchase here, and everything within the 4 walls of this shop are in place for only coffee, and for those to drink it, savor it. Gestures are sparse, all toward careful and measured preparation. Implements, vessels, containers, furniture, everything chosen, placed, offered, used, everything considered, everything done with care.

There is no artifice, simply a lifetime of dedication, continuously removing the extraneous, a master curiously watching the reaction of every new customer's first and second reactions.

東尾道に来てみたものの時間潰しするところがなく、あてもなくブラブラ歩いてる時に発見した喫茶店です。本格的な通な人に愛されるようなお店だと思いました。私のようなコーヒーにこだわりが無いものには場違いだったかもしれません。小さめのカップにギュッと詰まったコーヒーが出てきました。エチオピアモカというものを頼んだと思います。普段インスタントしか飲んでないのでとにかく濃い味だなぁというのが1口目の印象でした。ゆっくり過ごすことが出来て良かったです。もし、こちらの店にまた行くとしたらもう少しコーヒーの知識...

尾道に静かに佇む素敵な雰囲気で 看板に1982年と刻んであるのでおそらく創業から40年は過ぎており、ここだけの珈琲が頂ける素敵なお店。

メニューは珈琲のみながら、店主のこだわりを感じる。
