Cafe Makan — Restaurant in Shika

A delightful and delicious adventure in a small cafe in what looks like a residential neighborhood. The steep, bright white driveway takes you to a small parking area with enough space for only a few cars. A local publication explains that the vegetables here are grown by the proprietors, and the salads were wonderful! I highly enjoyed my shrimp rice gratin with avocado; an excellent comfort food that especially appealed to my American taste; my girlfriend very much enjoyed her Nepalese curry. We were both overwhelmed by the amazing dessert made with shaved ice. The ephemeral quality of the ice shavings makes for an unusual and unexpectedly delicious dessert: this, by itself, was was worth the trip from Tokyo. The proprietors were kind and attentive, the food delicious, and the atmosphere was warm, friendly, and full of kindness. I cannot recommend it...
