Hanamizuki — Restaurant in Shimoda

We were looking for dinner and thanks to the reviews, we gave it a shot. It’s situated at a quiet corner in Shimoda. Both husband and wife greeted us with a warm and friendly smile. We sat at the counter (it’s the best seat) because you get to see a Master Chef at work with his knife preparing a generous plate of Sashimi for three. Of course, the best part is we get to eat it too!! Lucky to have a local dropping by and recommended the fresh oysters and the sweet potato with pieces of almonds rolled in bacon - very nice. The fresh produce was great choice. Sweet and fresh! We added a plate of tempura with 6 shrimps and vegetables. The shrimps had a good massage from the Chef before battering and frying. Maybe that’s why the shrimps maintained their freshness and juice. The capsicum and sweet potato were well and thinly battered. All went very well with a bottle of beer and complimentary sweet potato chips!

The three of us- father, mother and son plus the local were the only customers dining there (cuz it’s a weekday) and we loved the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the restaurant while we shared our experiences travelling around Japan.

花水季は週に一回はいかせていただいています。 以前私は、東京の銀座や麻布や和食料理の高級店の数々のお店に、仕事の関係で行かせていただいていますが、そこにも、負けないお店が静岡県下田市にあります。

ここまでのお料理を出せるのは静岡県全体で見ても花水季ぐらいかもしれません。

お料理、一つ一つがとても繊細で、基礎の仕込みだけで、後は注文が入ってから1から手作りされており、本当に、手の込んだお料理です。

コース料理で、おすすめなお料理を食べるのもよいし、手の込んだ手作りのお通しが３品ぐらいは出てくるのでその後お好きなメニューを食べるのもおすすめ！

初めてのお客様はコース料理が良いと思いますよ。私も最初はコースでした✨

本当どれをとっても感動、そして、美味しい。

それに加え、マスターとママな愛のこもった接客あたたかい笑顔に包まれながら、二人と過ごす時間は時間はとても早く、そんなことを感じれるお店は、私の経験では数限られている気がします。

お店の御夫婦が中が良く花水季を大事にしてくれるお客様がいるから、今のお店があるとマスターは、心から思っており、一人ひとりのお客様を大切にされ無理をしない人数しか予約入れず丁寧なお仕事をされ最初から最後まで接客でもお料理でも楽しませてくれます。

会話をしている中で教えられることもとても多く、いつも感謝しています。 日本人向けのお店ではありますが、観光客の外国の方も多く訪れ中々週末は予約がないと入れないこともあります。 是非ご予約をおすすめします！
