Lefty's New York Pizza — Restaurant in Takahama

I've been looking forward to visiting Lefty's since last year, since it was closed at the time I wanted to visit. The restaurant is in a lovely location with a clear view of the ocean from all the seats in the establishment. I ordered jalapeño sluces and a calzone. Unfortunately I feel that the pizza is overhyped. The crust was lovely, crispy and had a "woodfire oven" taste. However the toppings were not on par. The tomato base was under-seasoned with no notable herbs or spices. I think the size of the slice/quality of ingredients is not what I would expect at this price point. One of the many gems when you visit Wakasawada Beach. We had Lefty's in our itinerary prior to arriving. Great food (the Heshiko and corn mayo calzone were our favourite but you can't go wrong with the rest of the food on the menu like the Buffalo chicken wings), great view and great atmosphere. The owner(s) also seem wonderful. My wife and I (might bring some friends along with us too!) will definitely be dropping again on our next beach vacation. Best pizza outside of the USA. If you have a New York sized appetite, get the whole pizza. We only got a couple of slices and regret not getting more. Short walk from the main sites we came to see but so worth it. The dough, sauce, and cheese are near perfection.
