If you’re looking for a beautiful ambiance and a clean restroom, this place fits the bill.
The food portions are quite small for the price, and I was puzzled by the fact that we had to share from a single plate instead of having individual servings.
The taste was just okay. We can have better meals for similar prices elsewhere.
The water isn’t complimentary. There was no prior notice about the charge, and I wasn’t shown what kind of water it was that cost 450 yen. I don’t mind paying for water, but a headsup would have been appreciated.
They don’t allow separate payments (it wasn’t busy when we were there). Even in casual izakayas or other fine dining spots, separate payments are usually not an issue.

We stumbled across Sakae Ryoriten by chance one night, and we are glad we did. We enjoyed our meals so much, we reserved for a second night. I would give this restaurant 6 stars if possible. The atmosphere is understated, but elegant, and the staff were so helpful and made us feel comfortable. They have an English menu which was nice for us. The tasting menus were amazing. Each course was unique, beautifully presented and featured local Okinawa produce. Most of all, the tastes and textures were a revelation. Mr. Sakae is such a talented chef and his food Michelin worthy in my opinion. We couldn’t believe how reasonably priced this restaurant is for the high quality of food. I can’t recommend Sakae...
Read moreThis is probably our favorite restaurant in Okinawa. The atmosphere is refined, yet casual and feels very authentic as a slightly upscale izakaya (Japanese tapas). They infuse their own awamori (Okinawan liquor) with various fruits that make for great cocktails and have a reasonable wine selection as well. The food is always delicious and works well for groups. Our favorite dishes are the assorted sashimi, sea grapes and tomato salad, chargrilled pork spare ribs, and deep fried fish. All the ingredients are local and there are plenty of seasonal options and specials if you ask any of the very friendly and helpful staff. Offers Japanese and English menus and service; reservations recommended for...
