Pure art ! Having lunch at Hiyoriya was an extraordinary experience, like stepping out of time. Each dish was as refined and delicate as the hostess herself, with flavors and presentation on par with fine dining, all for a very reasonable price. I’m not even vegetarian and it was the best meal I’ve ever had in Japan. The care and attention to detail made every bite memorable. Just… wow. Besides, the atmosphere is so relaxing. A place not to miss on Yakushima.

Probably the fanciest/most refined food I've ever had. A very Japanese-style meal, filled with different pickled veggies, tofu, soup, rice, and the most heavenly deep-fried veggies/fake meat I've ever eaten. The place is sometimes open for dinner but only if you call and make a reservation. It's also very small, located in a house that looks unassuming from the outside (doesn't really look like a restaurant and lacks signage).

Amazing experience! Fully vegan set meal, plus we ordered drinks and dessert. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend making reservations. It may not be possible to get in otherwise as there is only 1 table that seats 5. This is a restaurant inside the owner’s house and is a one-person operation. Please note that it is cash only.

I think a lot of people come here for the vegan food, but we found this place because my friend has gluten intolerance, and finding places that will accommodate or even know about this is difficult in Japan. The owner was so nice and welcomed us even though we did not have a reservation (would definitely recommend calling ahead or showing up early because we ended up waiting a little over an hour for the last spot). She made us delicious set course meals and ended with tea and desserts. All you order is your starting drink, and your choice in dessert. The portions are are on the smaller side, almost like a tasting menu for some of the dishes but it was overall filling. I will...
