Yakushima Hachimanju Tea Garden — Restaurant in Yakushima

This is the place to go if you want to get Yakushima tea leaves, I guess the weather here suits producing some good tea, they have choices of black tea, roasted green tea, green tea, powder, bag & lose form too.

If you are keen to get their dessert, they also sell soft serve ice cream, the mix flavour was subtle but has a really nice matcha scent to it & a deeper flavour, I managed to order this and a matcha sando which essentially means two perfectly baked matcha cookie sandwiched a layer of nice cold matcha cream, highly recommended on that one, I wished I have bought more than one! Each at Jpy300.

Perfect little place to get some tea related souvenirs and it is interesting here in this island, shops stock up goods that also from other shops as well, what a nice way to tie the community together.

Parking is just right outside, and it is not far from the Yakushima...

Important, because matcha in Yakushima is so fresh, it's significantly less bitter than in the rest of the world. That being said, this is the best matcha tea and matcha ice cream we've ever had. It's local produce. And please don't miss the 5 minute walk to the back where the tea fields are. There is a nice wooden deck there so you can walk slowly while drinking your tea or enjoying your ice cream. Truly magnificent experience. Yakushima itself is a Japan hidden gem, and this store and the gig around it, is a pearl itself...

Wonderful shop for quality & local products including treats, gifts, and amazing teas!
