This is one of Kisumu newest hangouts by the lake. It's the old Kisumu resort repurposed and completely reimagined. It's a place where there's something for everyone to do. Theres a play area for kids and adults alike and then an expansive grounds with seating areas. Getting to the place is a bit tricky especially if you don't have a car. The road is in very poor shape with large potholes and sunken cabro blocks. So it can be quite the task for smaller vehicles to get there. Be warned if you are planning to get there with a digital taxi service. It's probably faster with a motorbike taxi. However, depending on where you are coming from they can overprice so bargain. The two times I have been here it's rained in the evening and it wasn't fun getting out. The road condition worsens to large pools of water and visibility can be a problem. Again a motorbike taxi could be a lifesaver. Get there early but they do open till late into the wee hours if you prefer to stay late. The food I ate was delicious although I don't know if it's that way all the time. However, be prepared for a long wait. They don't seem to have the capacity to prepare food quickly during peak times like over...
Read moreBeware! There is a substantial hygiene problem with this place. My friend has been vomiting almost instantly from two sausages she had and I myself have experienced an upset stomach for three consecutive days from a salad.
Aside from that the service was painfully slow (physically as well as mentally) A major deal of the menu seems to consist of a big serving of "we don't have" with a generous side order of "not available". The waitress instead of letting you know from the start will wait until you have selected such items before telling you.
(reply to the owner's reply: salad allegedly was one of the not available - items on the menu but on explaining the waitress that the components are all there for other dishes and just need to be recombined, then magically it became possible, ingredients being cucumber, tomato, peppers, onions, a bit of lettuce, vinegar. - For the discussion on vomiting speed, that one was one of the quickest I have seen in a lifetime, so I guess there must have been something very...
Read moreBeautiful scenic ambience, out in the open air by Lake Victoria, overlooking Kisumu City. It's even prettier at night with the lights. The service is painfully slow though, not quite enough wait staff. Food took about an hour and a half after a projected 30 minutes. We sampled the Uchoyo platter, which has three meats and two starches - portions are great and it's enough for 3 to 4 adults. However, only one meat was served hot, the rest of the food was all cold. But the staff are generally friendly, they just seem overwhelmed when the numbers swell. They have a kids play area, but it's quite far from the common sitting area, which is problematic. And the music gets very loud over the weekend. Pick your timings carefully if out with young children as they have shisha on...
