We had the pleasure of dining at Leonardo's Restaurant in Diani this past Sunday night, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the ambience — elegant, intimate, and thoughtfully designed. As classical and opera music fans, the choice of classical background music was absolutely electric and elevated the entire evening. The restaurant features charming cubicles made of high-quality mahogany, with beautiful finishes and cozy red cushions and pillows. These private spaces are perfect for those looking to enjoy a quiet, personal moment during their meal. The service was exceptional. We were served by Linda, who was not only incredibly friendly and professional but also highly knowledgeable about the menu. Her attentiveness made us feel so welcomed and at ease. Even the boss made rounds checking in with guests to ensure everything was perfect — a lovely touch that made us feel truly valued. Another unexpected highlight was the antique-style bathrooms — a nostalgic and stylish element that added to the charm of the place. The prices were very fair, especially considering the quality of food, service, and the overall experience. I highly recommend Leonardo’s to anyone visiting Diani. It’s more than just dinner — it’s a memorable experience.

Leonardo’s is a multi-generational Italian gem in Diani that truly delivers an exceptional dining experience. The thoughtful and efficient restaurant design creates a welcoming atmosphere, and the service is just as impressive. Our waitress, Purity, was fast, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food? Simply outstanding. The pizza has a light, airy thin crust that’s perfectly done, paired with a rich pomodoro sauce and superb homemade mozzarella. The toppings are fresh and high-quality, rounding out an authentic Italian flavor. The homemade gnocchi was an absolute delight—soft, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. And let’s not forget the tiramisu, which was the perfect way to end the meal: creamy, well-balanced, and indulgent. Roberto and his team have created something truly special here. If you’re in Diani, this place is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine. Bravo! 👏🏽

Overall this place was awesome. We made the mistake of ordering a salad but everything else was perfect. This restaurant is very nice and elegant, so you see that in the prices. But it was a nice change to sit somewhere clean and comfortable. Staff was VERY friendly and welcoming. The restaurant accepts visa. We ordered the spinach ravioli and a caesar salad. The Caesar salad was not good. It had a weird mayo dressing and soggy lettuce (see picture). But the ravioli was amazing. Small portion but amazing. Even though our salad was bad, we’d definitely go back here. Also, local fishermen are trolling for yellowfin tuna this time of year (July), so I’d definitely go back and try something tuna/fish.

Location: Ok Staff: Excellent (service staff / waiters)

Been here 3 times now, normally for a quick dinner and drinks / wine, on our 3rd visit, 18th March saturday, I had left my wallet at home so decided to pay via MPESA, the application was lagging, no confirmation messages on either end, informed our waitress that we will make payment again as none of us are sure whether it went through, however of or goes through twice if we can be refunded, she agreed, paid for the 2nd time, after about 10 minutes or so all messages / notifications camethrough, payment went through twiceans waitress came to confirm payment has been received twice,

We asked if they can send the additional payment back if they have confirmed, she said they have confirmed but we should reverse it instead, we asked if we may kindly confirm if they can send it back instead (Been in Diani for 5 months and some businesses are unfortunately notorious when it comes to refund), she requested if we may kindly speak to the cashier, which we did, cashier stated she is not allowed to send any money back however she confirms she received the payment twice, she showed is the MPESA confirmation messages on her phone and additionally she showed us a text message that she sent to there accountant (as she stated) to inform him/her there was a double payment.

I asked her, what if she rejects the reversal coz we are all here, what's the difference if she has already confirmed it's a double payment?

She stated even though it's a double payment she isn't allowed to refund the money as per the owners instruction, fair enough, she is only an employee and she must abide by set policies

We reversed the amount only to be rejected a few hours later,

Following day 19th March my partner went back to get the redund, both the owner and cashier were available, the owner stated refund cannot be done as its a sunday, they do confirm they received a double MPESA payment for the same bill heiveer accountant will only be in on monday, at least that's what the owner promised however still no refund for the double payment, it's quite unfortunate for an establishment to make up silly excuses to try keep such small money, I pity the tourists who have had such experiences & can not do anything about it since they do not live in Diani.

Hospitality used to be people first ..employees first, clients second...never have I heard of policies and procedures first, that's a brilliant way to tell the customer f**k you, we care about our policies not you...

No matter how small or big the refund is, this is totally unacceptable, more money is wasted of petrol and time rather than refunding, it's even better to state you dont want to refund we should rather consume the payment, but lousy excuses ?

What if the accountant is sick God forbid, your business stops ? Everything must stop ?

Come on guys, you can do better...

This simple issues like such shouldn't be a problem, a lousy $20 will not make or break your business,

Act right and have some integrity kindly. It's that simple.

Especially to owner and management

The service staff are however brilliant...

The food at this place was HORRIBLE. Out of about 20 dishes, 2-3 were ACCEPTABLE… not good, acceptable… And those weren’t even Italian.

The Italian ones were the worst dishes we tried last night… And that is UNACCEPTABLE considering the type of restaurant we were eating at. The pasta was OVER COOKED, the gnocchi were TASTELESS, the pizza was DISGUSTING, and the salads weren’t flavoured. This is definitely not what you would expect when eating in “the best Italian restaurant in Diani”…

And not only was the food HORRIBLE, it was served over an hour after we had ordered it which is also unacceptable, especially for the soups and the flavourless salads which are considered starters and must be brought far before the main courses and way faster.

In addition to the food disaster, we found a hair with the Red Snapper fish, which was in fact the only good dish we tried there.

On the next day, out of the group of ten people, half of them got food poisoning and diarrhoea.

Overall, the night in the restaurant was a DISASTER and it is definitely not “the best Italian restaurant in Diani”… in fact it was the WORST one I have been to not only in Diani but in the ENTIRE WORLD. I have no idea how this place got so highly rated but I definitely don’t recommend it to anyone and even though is close to our hotel, I will not even look at it when passing by until the end of...

Beautiful place with some ambivalences. I was there for lunch and had Spaghetti Carbonara - it was a great quality and good service. So I reserved for dinner. For dinner I ordered Chicken Souvlaki Skewers with GREEK salad, Tsatsiki and Chips. This meal was really poor and small as it is ment to be one of the signature dishes in this house. It came with a very small poor salad, nothing Greek - no cucumber no tomato no onion no feta cheese, the skewers where small and the chicken meat was cold and not from the breast but just some small cut pieces from any part of the chicken with parts of gristle. The Tsatsiki Sauce was also very very small and not really made by yoghurt, but Tsatsiki is the signature thing for Souvlaki. The chips where acceptable. I complained and the waiter brought me a so called greek salad in a size of a very small ketchup side bowl. So all in all - as the owners are Europeans - this plate to announce it in the menu as a main dish Chicken Souvlaki is completely UNACCEPTABLE. I just let it be because I was hungry and didn't want to stress my date partner - by the way her plate was even bigger from reasons I don't know and as a guest it's not my work to consult this business. So to the OWNERS - if you not want to ruin your restaurant - check the quality of your chefs and your words in the...
