Stopped here for one night as part of a week long safari. ||Upon arrival, the hotel didn't appear to have many safari guests. We arrived at lunchtime in time for lunch before our boat ride on the lake. There was a conference taking part and staff were setting up outside for their lunch. ||There are monkeys everywhere here and you need to have your wits about you, especially if you are partaking in the tea/coffee and cake in the afternoon.||The rooms are very basic but is clean and everything works. Our bathroom backed on to the generator area but the noise was not noticeable. It was also very drab looking with the white tiles. There are no fans in the room. The quilt was a little heavy and we didn't sleep that well. Whenever we go away we take small USB fans which can be used with a power bank or via a plug with USB sections, so they provided some relief from the heat. The sockets are same as the UK.||What the room lacks, the view certainly makes up for. We were in room 1404 and shared a patio area with our neighbour. We only heard them when they were passing our room to get on to the hotel grounds. We did have a couple of mosquitoes in the room but that is inevitable. ||The lake tour was very good. Our tour group had 14 members and the boats hold 7 people so one couple would have to be separated from their partner/spouse - and that turned out to be me. I had no issue with that; it allowed us to take photos of each other from the boats. ||Once back on dry land, the zebras had made their way on to the lawns. It was great to get up close to these animals. You have the chance here to get up close to giraffes too if you wish - the hotel staff will walk you to the area where they are. ||At dinner, the staff came out banging pots and pans and singing. Our travel agent had informed the hotel we were celebrating a recent wedding anniversary and we were provided with a cake. There were two others who had the same experience. A lovely touch.||Food wise, again there is plenty of choice. There is a hot station where fresh pasta and a meat option were freshly cooked for you.||Again you need to be chaperoned to your room in the dark hours (even though we were literally 100 paces from the dining room) - we had 2 hippos around 30ft from the room door.||Breakfast again the next morning was a little busy, but a definite improvement on the previous hotel. It seems the fresh egg station is very popular. We did have trouble with the toaster - it was too slow and didn't toast. ||We had a 5.45am alarm and I don't think the hotel has the most appropriate start times for breakfast so not everything was ready.||The Wi-Fi was good enough for our...
Read moreThis hotel has beautiful grounds, and nice bedrooms but is let down by poor management, which must not care too much as the issues are mentioned in many comments and haven't been addressed. I think there are a few changes they could make that would make it more pleasant and profitable, but perhaps they make enough money from the nice scenery.
Food is generally very good, but pretty much the same every meal so we got quite bored of it. The service is poor, not very friendly and quite slow: sometimes it takes half an hour for a drink to come. It's poor compared to the other MGM hotel we stayed. There were times where would have ordered another drink but no waiters came by, our dirty plates usually stack up on the table. Waiters offer drinks, but we didn't realise that included alcohol until our last night. If instead they offered "beer, wine, cocktails or soft drinks?" people would actually buy them. They could also put menus on the table, or mention the fact there are also other food menus to order from at an extra charge.
In general it's clear there is a lack of care and quality about the place: bathrooms are in poor condition, towels are almost all ripped and tattered, the pizza we paid extra for was definitely frozen and the cocktail menu is just a list of ingredients. There are also no fans in rooms despite many reviewers complaining about the heat.
I personally wouldn't stay here again or recommend it, which is a shame as it's really beautiful, the beds were comfortable, the view is amazing, boat safaris depart from here and the hippos and monkeys roaming around are...
Read moreThe hotel grounds are truly beautiful, and the wildlife experience was incredible. We saw zebras, giraffes, and even hippos right on the lawns — a rare and magical sight. The staff were kind and attentive throughout our stay, which we really appreciated.||Unfortunately, the room itself was quite disappointing. It felt very dated, with old furniture, worn and torn towels, and a broken shower door. Cracking paint on the walls added to the sense of neglect. Given the high price we paid, the quality of the accommodation didn’t meet our expectations.||While the staff were friendly, we observed that they seemed intimidated by some guests, particularly a large group who behaved rudely — shouting at staff, being demanding, and letting their children chase and hit monkeys with sticks. This was upsetting to witness, and the staff did not intervene, likely out of fear of confrontation.||Our experience was further marred when my husband fell seriously ill shortly after eating a meal arranged at the hotel. We had not eaten for nearly 24 hours beforehand due to our travel schedule, and suspect the meat served may have been off. He was violently sick, and we reported this to reception and requested a later checkout, which we felt was a reasonable ask under the circumstances.as he could not leave the room we had an extra two hours ||In the end, despite the incredible animals and the efforts of the kind staff, our stay was overshadowed by poor room standards, distressing guest behavior, and a serious issue with food safety. Unfortunately, we would not...
