Booked this hotel for our honeymoon through a travel agent and we got a great honeymoon package consisting of meals on half board, breakfast in the room for the first day, massages for both of us, a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine in the room, and two complimentary glass bottles of water per day of our stay.
As we approached the hotel our driver, James, made a call to the guards alerting them that we were close. We did not have to wait at the gate and we received a warm welcome from the front office staff who greeted us by name, gave us warm towels, and glasses of fruit juice. The details of our package were explained to us â we were told where all the locations of the restaurants, spa, steam bath, and the gym were, the time when breakfast and dinner are usually served, and the check out times.
We stayed in a deluxe room for the first night and were upgraded to a swim-up suite for the other nights. Two swans were created out of the towels with roses on their wings and laid out on the bed on our first night. A message of "Enjoy Your Honeymoon" was written using fronds which was a warm welcome. The swim-up suite was a short distance from the beach - the hotel has access to the beach- and right across from it was Forodhani Bar and Restaurant; one of the two restaurants available at the resort. The meals from this restaurant are in the mid to high price range - as one has to pay for the meals from here - and the portions will leave you satisfied.
Our breakfast and dinner were served from Mambrui Restaurant where we were treated like regulars after the first night. The wait staff remembered our names and room number, and suggested a table for us. They helped us serve the food and always checked in on us to find out if everything was alright.
The bed in our room was cozy and more than big enough for two people. One can use the additional pillows in the wardrobe. While there were only 6 channels available for watching, they provided enough entertainment for us. The staff members responsible for cleaning the rooms daily were polite and ensured that the room was left spick-and-span. There was a safe in the room where personal belongings can be stored.
There is a winding pool with bridges at different sections making swimming an adventure. The pool is not too deep and there is a separate pool for kids.
We each had a one-hour African fusion Swedish massage at Barizi Spa and it was absolutely worth it and exceeded our expectations. We left feeling rejuvenated after the massage and its no wonder that it won in the Best Unique Experience Spa category in the 2021 World Luxury Spa Awards.
While the hotel is in a leafy neighborhood without much traffic, it is about 20 minutes away from town. One can easily access town by walking outside the hotel and summoning a motorbike or tuk tuk from the nearby stop or ask for transport options at the front desk. Travel to other towns within the Coast is possible from Kilifi stage in town.
We had a wonderful experience overall and would...
Read moreSilver Palm Spa & Resort is a beautifully designed hotel situated along Kilifiâs coast, boasting beautiful lush grounds that continuously invite you in. The hotel prides itself in unique architecture inspired by both âSwahili and Mediterraneanâ influences - As contained in its brochure. It truly is a sight to behold, with every stone and sculpture definitely showing off the majestic care the builders put into getting this place up and running.
The check-in process was swift, much like it is in most hotels in this modern era. I did appreciate the clean pathways, well manicured lawns and general high standard of cleanliness of the establishment. All walkways are paved, up to the rooms. Once in the rooms, you will appreciate the spacious living quarters, unparalleled access to the pool from the living room, large bathrooms and king sized beds. Our room also had a cooler, ideal for storing your drinks, vital since the hotel doesnât open its kitchen/bars well into the night.
What of the service? Not too shabby, but it could be improved. I noted severally being served meals without a full selection of condiments, often having to ask for basics such as ketchup where it would seem rather obvious with meals such as French Fries. The meals selection wasnât too wide, and the quality of the food was hit and miss, some being extra tasty while some being flat.
Considering Kilifi is largely a sleepy town, the lack of entertainment arrangements is a missed opportunity for the hotel. With only a (largely uninhabited) tennis court, the hotel lacks amenities that could aptly engage guests, such as a lively beach bar that opens till late, or a clubhouse. Maybe this could be a key consideration going forward.
If you would visit this hotel after browsing through their listing on their social pages, one would be tempted to think the hotel has lush sandy beaches. Alas, the hotel is situated on a cliff overlooking the rocky beach. While this may not be any fault of their own, at least it would pay to communicate such details in order to manage expectations of guests expecting something different from their beach resort.
In summation, Silver Palm is a great place to take some time off and chill outside the everyday hustle and bustle of life. If that is what you are looking from your holiday, then you will be pleasantly satisfied. However, if you are the active bird who desires more activity from your establishment, you may need to supplement your stay with activities outside the hotel in order to gain more...
Read moreYes! Yes! Yes! Excellent service by staff. The staff make your stay as pleasant as possible, from exceptional hygiene and cleanliness to providing beach towels, food customized. The staff get it right!! Our check in was very smooth, rooms ready and we travelled with our 1year old, had a bath basin and baby cot in our rooms, all ready! No need to follow up! As soon as they learnt we are Indian vegetarians, the chef was summoned for meals made to our preference and to know what requirements we had for the baby. Was lovely! By the way, Kenya has the best seasonal fruits which are a treat to eat up. Hygiene and cleanliness is perfect. The staff take their time to clean up the room, the outside of the rooms too! Despite being in the bushes, very few bugs make it inside. The pool is sparkling and very relaxing to swim in the extreme heat. It's super hot in Kilifi! The hotel is located on a cliff, so access only during low tides. Placement of sockets, switches and small tables in rooms are perfect. Beautiful interior designing with complimentary furniture which make it so easy to place the million small items one has while travelling. The only one little downside about the place is despite having so many coconuts growing on the property, they want to charge you for having one, other hotels that have coconuts on property, give them for free. Be sure to carry your sunscreen, insect repellent, shades/sunglasses and lots of moisturiser. The hotel usually doesn't have a lot of guests and it's best for romantic couples or intimate family. Not great for solo travellers looking for fun.
The property was super easy to go about with a stroller, keeping in mind it's a small and everything is well placed.
Kilifi doesn't have much to do. There's scuba diving and the dhow sunset cruise that shows you around the mangroves and creek. Take your own food and drinks for the show, it's a 20-25 min drive from there hotel that the hotel can arrange for you.
Kilifi is rather safe and hotel...
