Read moreI do not frequently post reviews, but wanted to share two experiences i had at shamba. The first was few months ago, at fathers day. Ordered the most expensive steak in the menu. Obviously medium rare. The waitress, after an excruciating long time brought something completely different and was absolutely unconcerned with the fact i wanted something different. Went to complain, eventually i was brought the steak, extremely overcooked, rubber consistency. No apologies, but high prices indeed. I let it pass, i don't like to complain and mistakes can happen, once. Last week, we ho there again. This time with two kids and my pregnant wife. Moderately busy but certainly non full. It takes 30 mins to be able to get a menu. Ask for a beer draft comes in bottle, i have to go myself to the bar to get it changed, it is impossible to get a waiter attention. We ask for the time to decide, asking to come back in 10 - 15 mins at least water for the kids and my wife comes. Menus still left on the table, we try to attract several times the attention to the waiters. After 1 hour 15 mins, fed up we ask for the bill. My wife was hungry, the kids were hungry, went somewhere else. Another waiter i had to chase tried to correct suggesting we might be prepared quickly something, apologizing. Too little, too late, after almost two hours we were there. He indicated these are common complaints and that it is a "management issue" without elaborating further. Looking at the reviews i can tell i am not the first to notice....
Read moreBlatantly racist service with only European diners being accorded service whilst the others had to make do with what the restaurant accorded them. We were left waiting at the reception as both the attendant and waiter showed a prior diner to their table with menus in hand. We then had to ask to be shown our table upon which it was neither cleaned nor ready. The waiter on the table left it dirty with a poor clear up attempt made half heartedly. Then left alone for quite a while with no one even giving us a menu whilst newer European diners were being shown to their clean tables with menus. One of the staff who was our allocated server walked right by us even when asked for the menu.
Finally one of the more senior servers came to our table and took over the service. Food however was sugary, all meals were overloaded with cheaper carbohydrates and fewer nutritious ingredients. Food came over an hour after we came in, and was cold. By this time European diners who came in long after us had already been served nearly 3 courses.
Great experience if you want to be reimagine what it must have been like in colonial times. Might serve the owners of the cafe better to put a sign outside barring entry to non Europeans and perhaps the Kenyan authorities to look at their clearly...
