I probably don't have to tell you that Zen Garden is one of the premier restaurants in Nairobi. I've been there twice and both times I really enjoyed it.

They serve several types of Asian food there. Check out the pictures. I personally enjoyed my Tuna & Avocado salad, which included avocado slices with raw tuna sushi. The only downside is that it was small.

You can also get several types of sushi there, as well mains, like meats and vegetarian stuff. I also believe that they have pizzas (which I wouldn't be getting from an Asian restaurant 😁)

My gf also ordered Shredded Lamb with noodles and it was very delicious. Check the pictures. The meat was very tender, well cooked and noodles were very tasty as well.

We also had a couple of cocktails: she got a strawberry daiquiri and I got a classic margarita. (See pictures.) Both were awesome!

On the price-front, it's somewhat pricey for Kenya. For our meal, that I mentioned above, and for 2 rounds of drinks we paid about $100 USD. But it was worth it.

PS. I should also point out how nice and friendly they were. We showed up at about 6 PM on Saturday night without prior reservation (and even though the place looked full) the maitre-d lady was still able to sit us in an overflow garden, and we received her full attention and service.

Thus my advice - if you are going to go there during the prime time, make sure to call in ahead of time to get a...

• 1) Food - This place is fantastic for Asian food in nairobi from Sushi to Rice, Noodles and Even pizzas! • 2) Range of Beverages. Huge variety of sodas, milkshakes coffee and alcohol • 3) Good Service. The waiters listen to your order keenly however it is hard to get their attention initially. • 4) Hospitable Atmosphere. The interior and outside seating area are phenomenal • 5) This place is quiet expensive compared to most restaurants in nairobi so one needs to budget atleast 3000 for a 3 course meal and a drink. • 6) Convenient Location. On lower kabete road in spring valley area • 7) Culinary Expertise. From their menu, they specialize in asian cuisine with actual chefs from asia. They also have confrence facilities and a garden for hosting large events • 8) Hygiene, Cleanliness & Toilets. - the toilets needs some attention

Parking - there is free secure parking within the compound however it is busy on weekends so i would suggest to take an uber/bolt.

The overall...

Overrated and overpriced. Zen Garden has been around for more than a decade, and is still riding on the old reputation and notoriety.

The garden is lovely and the ambiance serene. The interior designer has done a very decent job too. With a nice playground and kids’ activities during weekends, it’s a good family setting. The service is acceptable at best. If only the food could be top notch, but alas, nothing to write home about here. With mediocre sushi and some rather tasteless seared tuna, bland Szechuan prawns and a spicy salmon specialty whose only exciting aspect is the description on the menu, this place is simply not worth the money. They would obviously have great potential with a better chef, but until that changes, we...

Zen garden is one of my favourite restaurants! It’s been me and my family’s go to place for years and the quality of food, drinks and service just keep getting better with each passing year and visit! We always order dumplings, the prawns tempura and wonton to start with. The sushi is to die for and so is their chilli pork with fried rice (they have a variety) or noodles. The atmosphere is great, relaxed and perfect for a weekend afternoon catch up with family or friends. It’s kid friendly too with a playground for the little ones. For dessert do try what they have as they’ve got that right from gelato to different types of cakes for all tastebuds. In short the food and drinks are pure delight for the tastebuds!
