I love the Benihana franchise but I usually go to the one at the avenues mall. I went to the sabah al salem branch due time constraints and I was shocked of the different experience I had. First off the cooking table had stains on it which I've never seen in the avenues branch. I thought to myself maybe it wasn't cleaned thoroughly so when the chef came and he attempted to wash it off with water it wouldn't wipe off....kinda off putting but whatever I guess....the chef was fun and entertaining but I've never seen theM ever make trick mistakes in the avenues but in this branch it seemed as if this is where they practice before they get bumped to the big leagues (avenues branch) the table service was subpar the guy seemed annoyed we weren't sure what to order and after the meal when I was reviewing the receipt (took 20 sec max)he walked away and didn't come back till maybe 6min later. And before you say he was busy he wasn't.There was 3 tables and he didn't go to any them. He went somewhere in the back and came back with nothing. Our experience at Benihana was disappointing. The restaurant had a bad smell, reminiscent of a chicken coop. Kamal, our server, needs to improve his table attending skills. He didn't maintain good eye contact with us, even when we indicated we were ready to order. His communication and social interaction skills need improvement. Kamal served our food but did not check on us regularly or clean the table once we finished each dish.

The sequence of the served food was off. The sushi platter was served first, instead of the soup and salad. Additionally, the soup was not served at all, yet it was added to our bill, and we had to point this out to the staff. The pina colada was missing its garnish so I had to ask for the pineapple slice, and the salmon cubes in the salmon avocado salad tasted very fishy.
