S Baras RESTORANAS — Restaurant in Šiauliai

After the hill of crosses we ventured across the town to S Baras as they seem to be near the woods. The gps took us to the back of the restaurant. Fortunately I remembered seeing some parked cars in the way in and found the eatery right smack in front of a mystical icons park.

Food was racy. Menu, tight. The video behind the bar showed the highlights of the dishes served. We ordered 2 porks mains ( why ain’t we surprised after all we’re in pork country ), the wine marinated pork neck and the smoked pork shank.

The neck was overdone. Maybe the wine marinate saved the day. The meat is still flavourful but over-cooked. The smoked shanks was perfect, with good resistance and full flavour. It came with horseradish, aioli, sauerkraut, pickled cucumber and potato wedges. Quite a serving.

Great place, great food, fantastic and very attentive service. Ordered chicken shashlik and it was nothing short of amazing. Meat literally melted in my mouth. Sides were skillfully paired and cooked to perfection. Spicy cranberry sauce complimented the meat entirely. Atmosphere was very calm, relaxed, and inviting.
