*The place is pretty far from the exit point of the Penang hill tram. Just take a buggy ride there and ask them to drop you off at the cafe (RM30 per trip which can fetch about 5 persons). As long as you’ve bought something in the café you can also queue up for the café’s truck which can take you back to the Penang hill tram entrance (keep your receipt as proof to ride!). Ambience: Unique environment here, and true to its name there is a lot of greenery in this place which offers a lot of shade from the sun. Despite that, I think they did a great job in controlling the number of insects so you won’t have to worry too much about it. The outdoor seating is also quite unique and it really does give a nice spin on the environment of how you would normally have high tea. Service: Could be better, as they don’t really seat you to your table or take your orders there (order at the counter), but I think it is good enough given the locale. I’ve seen the staff rush to pass a customer’s receipt to them while they were queueing, and they were attentive in ensuring any finished plates were taken away quickly, so the right attitude is definitely there. Food Decent food. Their name sake’s coffee (Kopi Hutan) was slightly stronger than I expected, but tasted good. Cakes were pretty average but I did enjoy them. Price: Surprisingly decent, as I was expecting to be ripped off since it was in a tourist destination. However you are basically paying a pretty standard café pricing (RM 10-20) so I have no complaints there. Conclusion Would I specifically come all the way back here again just for this café? Probably not. But if you are in Penang hill already anyway, and are looking for a place to just relax after walking around in the hot sun and to have some decent coffee, do consider coming here.

It's true named "Forest Café" as it's located inside of Penang Hill area, surrounded by trees. Facinating! 1. Food and drink - 5/5 Quite skeptic to expect a resto or cafe inside tourist/recreational area to has good quality like this "100% Arabica Coffee" - brewed by Mokapot and tasted excellent. With chocolatey notes with balanced acidity, but not quite clear hint. Sandwich - stuffed with eggs and vegetable, it's nice as light bites Chicken Pie - great balanced savoury pie with plenty of meat inside 2. Service - 4/5 You have to order on the cashier. The waiters are just okay and do the job well. Don't expect welcoming greet AFAIK. 3. Atmosphere - 4/5 Interesting experience to take a break inside forest. They have semi indoor and outdoor seating area (no smoking). You will not find restroom here, you have been warned. But handwash sink is available. WFC? Why it would be? Just stay chill. 4. Price - 4/5 Average price range as a cafe. The coffee cost about RM 12 (IDR 40k). The snacks are around RM 10-16 (IDR 35k - 55k). IMO, it's worth it. 5. Parking and Access - 3/5 You have 2 option to reach the place: walking for 20 minutes or pay a golf car (named Buggy). Not sure how much the Buggy costs.

I had an amazing experience at Kopi Hutan, nestled in the serene surroundings of Penang Hill, Penang. The coffee here is a true delight, perfectly complemented by the natural beauty that surrounds it. The aroma and flavors of the coffee transported me to a blissful state of relaxation. One highlight of my visit was the generously portioned sandwich. It was not only delicious but also incredibly satisfying. Every bite was a burst of flavors, and I was impressed by the thought put into creating a substantial and fulfilling meal. Overall, my time at Kopi Hutan was a memorable one. The combination of nature's tranquility, excellent coffee, and hearty sandwiches made it a truly exceptional experience. I highly recommend visiting this delightful establishment to savor the unique blend of nature and culinary delights it has to offer.

I'ved read in advance in Google review of this cafe and felt quite terrified with some of the reviews (rude owner, staffs, slow service etc). So I came in prepared.. Guess what, I didn't experienced that. The owner is a chinese uncle and auntie. The spoke in their own way and maybe they are tired (we came around 4pm during public holiday) and maybe they sounded rude to some snowflakes. The staffs also very helpful and cheerful. Coffee wise, not much of a choice. They serve coffee, black in mokapot with side of sugars and milk. Food choice is very limited as most of it sold out we just ordered the breadstick which is very nice to dip in the hot black coffee. I do love their environment especially the hobbit toilet. They also provide free return to the main entrance for all customers by 4×4. Keep it up! Peace!
