During our visit to THE VEIL, located at Persiaran Bayu Delima, Emerald Bay, Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on 13 May 2025, we were immediately captivated by the stylish, modern architecture of the building. The interior design exuded a contemporary, cozy yet refreshing ambiance, creating a perfect setting for a relaxing meal. From our table, we enjoyed a breathtaking panoramic view of the Straits of Johor, which added to the overall memorable experience. Our friendly and attentive staff member, Kumar, warmly welcomed us, introduced himself, and thoughtfully provided a detailed overview of the menu, highlighting their signature dishes. Based on his recommendations, we decided to indulge in a delightful selection of dishes: Starters: Ika Lobster Delight — The lobster meat was exceptionally flavorful, chunky, and tender, with a satisfying, seafood-rich taste that immediately whetted our appetites. Soups: Signature Mushroom Soup — This soup was a standout, boasting a rich, creamy texture combined with a fragrant aroma of fresh mushrooms, making it both comforting and aromatic. Main Courses: Chicken Roulade — Presented beautifully, this dish featured tender chicken rolled with flavorful fillings, resulting in a savory, satisfying bite. Trout Salmon — Light and elegantly plated, the salmon was perfectly cooked, with a delicate texture and subtle flavors that did not overpower but complemented the freshness of the fish. Dessert: Burnt Cheesecake — The cheesecake had a delightful balance of a creamy, smooth interior with a slightly caramelized, crisp top that added a touch of richness. Coffee Flat White — A well-prepared coffee with a smooth, velvety finish, perfectly accompanying our dessert and rounding off the meal. Beyond the exceptional food and stunning environment, what truly left a lasting impression was the staff’s genuine care and helpfulness, especially during an unexpected moment of distress. As we were preparing to leave, our car suddenly refused to start due to a flat battery. Approaching Kumar for assistance, I was impressed by his swift and proactive response. He immediately enlisted Chef Gerald’s help, who kindly drove his own vehicle to jump-start our car. Though the jump-start worked temporarily, I was understandably uneasy about driving further without knowing if the battery would hold, especially with additional stops ahead. Without hesitation, Chef Gerald took it upon himself to contact a trusted battery vendor, coordinating the delivery of a new battery directly to the restaurant. Throughout this process, the staff—namely Chef Gerald, Kumar, Daus, Raj, and Wan—kept us informed, demonstrating remarkable teamwork and genuine concern for our situation. They made every effort to ensure that my wife and I remained comfortable, offering us seating, refreshments, and constant updates while we waited for the replacement battery to arrive. Their acts of kindness went far beyond the call of duty, reflecting a level of hospitality and attentiveness that truly distinguished this establishment. We are deeply grateful for their support and professionalism during that stressful moment. It’s this exceptional level of care and helpfulness from the staff that has made our experience at THE VEIL unforgettable — so much so that I am eager to return and highly recommend this place to friends and family. In summary, while the food and ambiance are already impressive, it is the staff’s attentive, caring attitude and willingness to go the extra mile that truly set THE VEIL apart. Their kindness and helpfulness left us with a warm, positive impression that will undoubtedly bring us back again.

Located in a previous show flat re-purposed into a restaurant, The Veil has some work to be done to overall improve. First, I have never been to a fine-dining restaurant where the owners sit themselves, at one of the tables, with an open laptop, keeping an eye on their workforce! While deco is its saving grace, alot of details need to be improved. On the food, the menu is limited. With already a limited offering, there were still items which were not available. Thus, choice is not an option. In some fine-dining restaurants, where food choice is limited, you know that it is because the Chef wants to concentrate to perfect the dish and it will taste superb. This is not the case here. Chef changed the ingredients and guests were not informed. Thus, when the food arrived, the ingredients differed from what was printed on the menu. While plating hits the mark, taste was not consistent... most times, the food tend to lean towards the bland side. Some details which one should not see in a fine-dining restaurant: The beauty, of this location, is that it is full glass with sea-view. But the glass needs cleaning. When asked for a double expresso, it arrives in 2 cups as they "do not have the cup for double expresso" (?!). Double expresso means double shot...unfortunately, the restaurant served a bigger portion of single expresso, served in 2 cups. To them, this is "double expresso". Service staff needs to be trained. No excuses if the staff is new or part-time. To the paying guests, you wear the uniform, you are an employee, irregardless of employment tenure. When we were there, the waitresses were not conversant in basic English and we could not understand what they were saying when they served the food. Grooming of the staff needs to be looked into. Most of they looked like the service staff we encountered in the regular toast and coffee shops around town. The Veil is definitely not ready to be welcoming guests as a fine-dining restaurant. ALOT of work need to go into making it one. But, if you are looking for a nice place for your IG posting, you may give the place a shot.

PLEASE READ ALL OF MY REVIEW BELOW Came here with my other half. She booked this place for our anniversary as a surprise celebration. One of the best place to visit! The foods were delicious. We ordered a 3 course meal for each of us. I must recommend the salmon tartar tartlet for the starter. Sweet tangy bite with just the right amount of salmon. Mushroom soup was also our fav. Our main were the lamb rack & charred beef. Both menu were our favorite, but if i was to choose, I'd go with the sous vide charred beef! Just for fun, both of us ordered dessert of the day. It was Panna Cotta. It was okay but hey, that was just my thought. *We also were offered unreleased menu for free! My other half liked the salmon combination, and our personal thought? Great combination of tangy salmon with crispy baguette Remember when i said this was a surprise celebration? Well. I was also prepared to counter the surprise. Thank you so much Madam Xinting- person in charge that evening. I requested her to bring my surprise ring during dessert. She immediately caught my idea and helped me to do the surprise. Special thanks also to mr Daus and mr Ridzuan. I saw both of them setup a plate just to compliment my ring 😭. Both of them did their best and i didn't expect the setup they made was to be so good. I was expecting them just to bring my ring but, kudos to all of you. Mad respect from me. To AJ, Thank you so much for your warm hospitality, attending us and everything. To mr Daus, for being our impromptu photographer-which again, i didn't expect to be offered. And to mr Ridzuan, for the complimentary unreleased menu and everything. I must say, i will come again and again not just because of the food and vibe. It was mainly because of the service here. With all my heart, thank you The Veil
