Let's be honest, folks come here just for the many "exotic" or esoteric Chinese dishes on offer and nothing else and this is how its rating is gonna be ranked. It has an equally "exotic" name to go with it: 2 Gor! [For the uninitiated, it literally means "The restaurant of the second brother"]. Located in Tmn Permai, right opposite Tmn Semenyih Jaya, it is just about 700m to the newly opened interchange that connects you to the roundabout of Setia Ecohill and Ecomajestic via Persiaran Ecohill Timur, in the so-called new Semenyih (both a further 2km away). There is little ambience to talk about as it is an old-school, non-halal, neighbourhood-type Chinese restaurant, their menu set entirely in Mandarin, that operates out of a shaddy "covered extension" of a corner shop-lot which looks derelict to many, where about 10 pink- or red- draped tables greet you on arrival with the classic look of a Chinese restaurant. It's obvious that their patrons are mainly drawn from the nearby populace. With two ceiling fans and two standing fans working overtime to keep you from getting hyperthermia, this ain't no place to find your usual trendy crowd but if you're prepared to overlook its rather "historic" conditions and do without the need for absolute dining comfort, you'll soon uncover a gem of a place for a great gastronomic excursion, with many exotic dishes on offer set at a rather inelastic price level aimed at the demand of the budget-conscious general public in Semenyih. For starters, the special pork-rib aka "yak-ji-kuat" (一支骨) with its unforgettable deep-fried texture and awesome sauce is the absolute must try signature dish here! Next up, don't forget to order either the "deep fried milky-butter Tilapia" (奶沙非洲鱼) which is a kind of special deep-fried dish well known in and around Semenyih, or its splendid variant called "chrysanthenum fish" (菊花非洲鱼) or their special steamed Tilapia in soy sauce and egg (水蒸炸非洲鱼) which is as delicious as it is less oily in texture. The "Vietnamese-twin-seafood" (越南双鲜) dish of squid and prawn in green curry should make those who like spicy seafood really happy, if not, give the steamed prawn with egg (蛋蒸虾) a try for the less intrepid. If you like exotic "taufu"豆腐 (bean curds) of the home made kind, you're in good company here: please ask for assistance as there are at least 5 to 7 different cooking styles to meet your needs from the simple and usual "teppanyaki", "claypot", "steamed", to the unusual "pickle-soy-sauce", or even the more esoteric "ice-chilled" varieties. My fav is a variant known as "deep well" or "sum-jiang taufu" 深井豆腐 ! Take you pick! The normally unheard of "ice chilled treatment" is also extended to their sweet-sour pork cutlets (冰冷咕噜肉), if you are esoteric enough to give it a try. For crab lovers, you need to call in advance as stock is subject to seasonal demand. The fig chicken soup (仙果鸡汤) can be a polarizing item in terms of opinion. Nonetheless, it is a "signature dish" here. As for leafy dish lovers, the "green dragon with bean sprout" (青龙芽菜) is really well cooked for your enjoyment. Here, they claim to be able to please the taste of everyone so I guess on that count, you won't be disappointed except on a Wednesday when it is closed for business. Turn-around time is impressive even when all tables are fully occupied and service in general is fairly good. But keep in mind its target audience, the fish on offer are the usual suspects of Tilapia非洲鱼, brown grouper石班鱼, siakap 石甲鱼(sea-bass), patin 八丁鱼 or red snapper 红枣鱼varieties and nothing exotic like tiger grouper, "loongdan", white pomfret, not even Marble Goby fish aka "soon-hock" (筍壳鱼). Just Don't forget to bring you favorite bottle of sauvignon blanc or chardonay along to complement the quality of seafood here as french wine is generally thought of as a relic in this part of the world. Ratings : Food : 4/5, Price level : 4.5/5 (pretty good food quality to price ratio),...
