Segenting is said to be the oldest Chinese settlement in Batu Pahat. The early Chinese coming from China arrived in the coastal area of this town and chose to settled in this village before moving out to the city centre gradually. Driving through the narrow road leading into the new village, I took my time to look at the kampung life as I grew up in kampung as well. We had to park our cars in any available spots, and then walk a short distance to reach this popular seafood restaurant that is extended out to the sea. My customer is already a regular here by the time we joined in the project, and it was his treat all the time. This post is a culmination of my several trips down to Batu Pahat which explains the numerous dishes described below. ◾fresh and huge sea fish.. we had a pomfret (dau dai chong) so big that it fits for a wedding bouquet, something that is not easily available here. Also one fish that it looks like coming straight out of Alien movie (look at its head). ◾Chilly crabs that any discerning foodie will approve. Fresh mud crab equivalent to XXL size drenched in the spicy and eggy chilly sauce, complete with deep fried manitou for dipping purpose. We had to ask the cook to cut down on the generous chilly (too spicy!) ◾Kam heong lala (clams) - again too generous on the bird eye chilly making the dish too hot for some. However, no complaints on the plump and juicy clams. ◾Kung bou dishes - we had both squid and mantis shrimp and loved both to the max! ◾Prawns - first we had it steamed with Chinese wine and egg white and it's original taste shone! On our subsequent visits, we had deep fried versions and although good, I still prefer steaming. ◾Claypot pork belly with salted fish - lacked the fragrant of salted fish but generally tasty. ◾Steamed whole kampung chicken - loved the herbal soups but the kampung chicken meat was tougher (which was normal if you compared to regular chicken) ◾Sweet and sour fish fillet - while the fish meat was firm and flaky, the sauce somehow lacked the oomph. ◾Cantonese style fried noodle and kuey teow! The noodles definitely got the essential wok hei, covered in the eggy gravy and topped with fresh little prawns and other seafoods. ◾Fish slice porridge... This was clearly the favourite among all of us. Perfect comfort food with the flavourful soup ◾Oyster omelette - lack in amount but the oysters were fresh nonetheless. ◾Taufu and vegetable dishes are essential in almost every meal. Prices of the seafood here are generally cheaper than eating in town area, and you will have to drive about 20-30 minutes to reach Segenting from the town centre. For me, the company coupled with the awesome wines and other types of liquors such as gins and whiskies definitely got everyone happy.

What we will order again 😋 - fried rice (damn good!!) - crunchy bean sprouts with salted fish (my hubby don't eat Tau gei at all, but he ENJOYED this. Their salted fish is very fresh and brings out the flavor of the dish) - claypot tofu (the sauce omgosh👌🏻) Not too bad 😊 - Assam fish head (a bit salty but I enjoyed the sour soup) - fried prawn with curry leaf (can be fresher, but we love the taste) Normal / won't order again 😢 - salted egg crab (hmm wasn't very worth the value, taste is below what we expected) Ambience - love the vibe, very Kampong yet lively place. We came at night, the night sky was clear and full of stars :) definitely a spot for family dinner, gatherings, kids friendly. Come here with more people! Then you can order more dishes to try and enjoy! Location - definitely need GPS if you're not a local, it's up in the mountain area but not too difficult to find if you travel there at least once!

Spiderman's uncle Ben said, great expectations comes with great disappointment. The rating 4 in Google Review brought me here. I ordered the recommended steam stingray by most of the reviewers, bamboo clams, flower clams, and pepper prawns. They were all overcooked, not tender, and the sauces were just simply coated outside. The meat itself has no freshness and sweetness which you would expect from fresh seafood. Were they frozen seafood? This costs me Rm125, the services were good and the environment was relaxing.

I have been here to eat many times. They've live fish and crabs for us to eat. The chilli crabs is a must try. Steam fish is good and fresh. I have tried almost all of their steam fish. The fried fish had many ways to cook. They usually use local sea salt water fish. Many of these fish are not found in the wet market. And the fried fish came with all kinds of sauce for dipping. The strange fried fish is a must have. Very fresh and tasty. The live crabs is using local sea salt water crabs. The crabs is big and heavy. The chef is the boss. The shop is a replica of a ship and many take photos and some post the Titanic. With the head of the ship in the photo. Wash rooms are on the top of the sea. Dining room is open air with a simple roof but is just we like. The roof is very cooling. You can enjoy the sea and sea shore scenic views. It is the Straits Of Malacca. All around the Ship Village Seafood Restaurant is temples. Day time eating you will enjoy sea breeze and very relaxing. Night time dining you can enjoy the night views and lights from the light house. Night time all around there is night markets. Day time around the restaurant is morning markets usually sell joss sticks for praying at the temple. Night markets sell local snacks. One of snacks is properdom. It is a good tapioca keropok with sauce on the top. There are many holiday chalets in the front of the beach. There is a jetty and we can see people fishing on the site morning and night. There are many fairytale statues around the place and attract tourists from all around the world. Ship Village Seafood cook Chinese herbs tea, chrysanthemum tea, barley water and soya drink. They also have canned soft drinks and beers. They sale all sorts of beer and stouts. We can bring our own wine. Open from 11 morning to late night and always crowded day and night. Open everyday. The main attractions of this Kampung Segenting Village is the few Amazon River Fish. The fish is found in South America. The many Amazon's fish are said to bring good luck. The pond is on the top of the beach on the rocks. Many of these tourists throw coins and make wishes. Ship Village Seafood Restaurant sells all kinds of salt waters shell fish. I love the oyster and mussels. And the lala shellfish. Their fried vegetables are great. They have lots of vegetables. The squid, cuttlefish and jelly cuttlefish are great. We can have it fried with flour. They usually cut the cuttlefish and fried with salted duck eggs. The crabs also fried with salt eggs. The clay pot seafood tofu is a must try. We can eat the rice with a chopsticks or fork and spoon. Ice and paper napkins is free. They receive call and takeaway. And we can book the tables. Fish and prawn that we can't finish can pack home. Prawns are really big prawns and are fresh prawns. We can fried, steam and cook the big prawns. And the prawns is sweet and fresh. We pay after the meal and satisfied. The place is filled with a lot of fans and is a friendly restaurant. Service fast and courteous. I wish to come back. Tq! What about you? The fried rice and fried noodle is fine. The Hotanho or the fried kuehteow is good and encouraging. 🍍🧧You can follow GPRS to the restaurant. It is located to the end of the road Jalan Minyak Beku. It is the the Minyak Beku Resort. Look at the left of the road and you can see a side road. You can read the road signs. It is inside the Kampung Segenting Village. It is a tourist...
