On a short trip to visit Zi Xia Guan (temple in a cave with a gorgeous statue carving of Goddess Guan Yin), we chanced upon a small restaurant with high ratings nearby. Yuen Ling Restaurant is a small establishment run by Sally and her husband, Yuen.
After our jaunt to the caves, it suddenly started to rain heavily. Just in time for dinner at the restaurant! Due to the rain, we were the only customers there.
We had a delightful dining experience at Yuen Ling’s. Sally is such a cheerful and welcoming person, making you feel right at home. Yuen, the quieter half, mans the kitchen and doles out our orders promptly.
We ordered some of their signature dishes to try: Yuan Yang horfun/beehoon Sweet and sour pork Asam fish Yaumak with minced garlic
The dishes were in the style of a home cooked meal, tasty and satisfying. We ordered extra plain rice to soak up the delicious gravy!
After the meal, we stayed and chatted for longer. We only left as more customers started coming. Since this is a small establishment run by only Sally and Yuen, we did not want to take up more of their time. If you are on a time constraint, this place may not be for you. However, if you have some time to spare for a leisurely meal and chat, do drop by for a visit. Whatsapp Sally to book a table to avoid disappointment.
If I have to sum up the experience, it is like visiting old friends at their house, and being hosted with warmth and a thoughtful meal. I would definitely make a stop here should I ever pass by Gua Musang again.
Thank you Sally and Yuen for your kind...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this place during our trip, and it turned out to be such a hidden gem! The lady boss is incredibly friendly, cheerful, and funny — we had such a nice chat with her. You can really feel the warmth the moment you step in.
The food here is authentic, home-cooked style, and absolutely delicious. Every dish tasted like it was made with love. The chef (there’s only one!) is amazingly skillful, and the service is surprisingly fast despite it being a small team.
Their signature dishes — Assam Fish, 金沙虾 (Golden Sand Prawns), and Sweet & Sour Pork — are must-tries!
Tip: If you’re coming with a big group, it’s best to WhatsApp or call about 30 minutes in advance to place your order. With only one chef, this helps them prepare your food quickly without compromising quality.
Definitely a place we’ll return to...
