Conclusion: Still pretty good after all these years
I’ve been here multiple times since I was a boy, but I haven’t visited for quite a few years.
RM144 for 3 crabs - crabs were a decent size, and meaty and fresh. The sweet and sour sauce tastes very good, with ribbons of egg to add to the taste and texture. The deep fried mantou wasn’t as good as before though. A bit tough and not as fluffy
Lala meehoon - This tasted exactly the same as 20 years ago. Fried old school style dotted with many tiny lala which I think is quite rare nowadays. Portion for meehoon was alright not very big, medium portion is good for 3 ppl to share as long as you order a couple other dishes as well.
Salted egg yolk mantis prawn - Salted egg taste was there, mantis prawn was crispy, but I wish the mantis prawn were in bigger pieces, cause the ones we were served were a bit broken up and small piece
Butter prawn - Prawn is big and fresh. Taste was on the light side - can taste the fragrance of the butter but I hope it can be a bit stronger taste
Vege was fresh but nothing to shout about.
All in all I was pleasantly surprised because I’ve seen a lot of recent reviews mentioning the food wasn’t good. Maybe I was lucky, but all the seafood were super fresh, and especially the main stars (sweet sour crab and lala beehoon) were really nice.
Service was alright, down to earth folks that get the job done fast and precise.
Price is not too expensive I think. Can refer to the receipt attached. Lala beehoon was quite cheap
Place is a bit run down but older folks know that this restaurant was one of the most bustling and famous seafood restaurants in Klang back in the 2000s. I hope it can regain some of that glory because it is still a solid restaurant to try. Just that the location can be a bit out of the way.
Fun fact - they don’t serve pork but the seafood dishes are...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience. Not worth coming here if you only have 2 people because you will not be welcomed.
This restaurant ONLY CATERS 3 or more customers per table. 2 customers they never bother to serve you at all. Stood there and waited for empty table at least 1 hour. I proactively asked several restaurant crew but they just don’t bother to answer me, or some foreign workers doesn’t even know English or Bahasa Malaysia. They only serve customers coming in as a big family. Kept getting REDIRECTED because 2 customers cannot sit certain tables. They directed others who just arrived at the restaurant. Was so furious, treated me as if I am looking for charity. Absolutely ridiculous. If you could let me know where to wait would be better but no you didn’t. Other customers with more members they can take their seats easily. Discrimination? Customers are smoking inside the restaurant but no one cares to stop them. This is a non smoking restaurant and I could just report this restaurant to MOH. Dirty environment, floor never clean. Flies and mosquitoes are flying all around the restaurant. Entering their toilet is like entering into third world country, be careful of the wet floor, trip hazard for elderly. Food quality was just so so. Price was okay but given the environment was like that it doesn’t worth single penny at all. Menu was not available. Told me if I need menu then I have to wait for half an hour. (Waited 1hr for seats, now menu?) Their staff didn’t wear proper attire at all. Someone with a hat and slippers just approached me and took my order… the person doesn’t even know what to recommend at all, as if you are start working here yesterday? Because you don’t have menu hence why I asked for recommendations, right mate?
I will never return to here again, discriminating small number of customers. Environment was...
Read moreOverall, the dining experience was below average. Here's what we ordered:
Claypot Tofu– Although it was served in a metal pot, which was fine, we specifically asked if the tofu was homemade as we prefer not to have Japanese tofu. The staff member taking the order simply nodded when asked, but the taste felt heavy with MSG (though we're not entirely sure). Based on the appearance (see attached photo), it might have been homemade, but the flavor left us disappointed.
Lala Fried Bihun – Lacking wok hei, and the lala (clams) were almost non-existent. When they did appear, they were extremely small (see picture). Comparatively, the Fried Lala Bihun at Lai Fong is far superior. Tase wise, though not to my liking but I will give it to them that it is very old school kind.
Buttermilk Mantis Prawn– The flavor was average, but the prawns themselves were quite small, especially compared to similar dishes I've had elsewhere.
Fried Fish 油浸非洲- Nothing special, just an ordinary dish.
Fried Rice – Again, no wok hei, and it tasted quite plain with minimal ingredients used.
The service also left much to be desired. The person taking our order seemed to lack basic manners, behaving as if we owed her money. While some might say it was just a case of RBF (Resting Face), it would have been more tolerable if the food was exceptional—but sadly, it wasn’t.
We spent 157 MYR, which felt overpriced for the quality and service...
