Barkat Original Roti John Asli — Restaurant in Malacca

Original famous Roti John operator in Melaka town. They started the business in 1978 at Pantai Puteri, later moved to Cheng and now at Bachang, Melaka.

The new restaurant runs at 2 lots double storey shop house which is very much convenience and spacious from the previous one.

The ingredients of "roti John" were made up of ikan bilis, sardines, chili and eggs (based on my personal observation and course NOT from the operator 😀) and very much different from those roti John operators that were found in local night market.

Car parks were easily available on the weekdays but very difficult on weekends and during school holiday.

Tonight was the second time we came here since 1998. Since the MOC is still enforced with strict SOP, there were less tourists except locals who came to eat.

I must congratulate the original Roti John recipes were still maintain except the bread were not...

Came from Bangi. Friend said you will never forget the roti john’s taste. I however don’t quite taste the hype. Roti john only has ikan bilis ‘flavour’ which might be what the original is :) it’s OK but not something out of this world. But i see how people will order it every time as its simple and pleasant to eat. Cuma… IMHO not worth coming all the way from afar to try.

Tried the ayam golek as well. It was a bit bland and really needed the accompanying sauce. The drink was a bit watered down (ordered neslo zero)

The roti john n ayam holek are very nice, very tasty.

BUT, the service needs a lot of improvement, most is their drinks delivery, we finished all our food before any of the drinks arrived at our table.

The excuse they gave was kinda bad, they deleted our order because of the number of orders coming in making them confused pr something.

Willing to give 5 stars for the food, but the overall experience needs to be improved.

Price wise was okay, but took too long to pay for your food afterwards.
