Visited this place after seeing a few posts online that spoke highly of it, and every single one of us were SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED.
It’s always best to plan in advance, so we called them a day earlier to reserve a table for our 9 person group for the next day, fearing that there might not be enough seats to accommodate our big group if we just walked in, and the staff even repeated our reservation details and confirmed that they’ll be reserving a table by the sea for us.
Upon arrival, we mentioned about our reservation to one of the staff, and after checking they said that they didn’t make any reservations for us. Ended up seating somewhere else less desirable but anyways…
The environment and atmosphere is the only thing worth compliment on. It’s a decent place, there’s natural breeze coming from the sea and you get a good view of the water and buildings along the stretch of the coast. Although, it being outdoors means there are a lot of mosquitoes especially around dinner time. The table cloths however were extremely dirty, no idea how long has it been since they last cleaned it.
Then came the menu, they only gave 2 for our 9 person group, which wasn’t enough so we requested for more, but it took them 10 minutes to get us more menus.
All of us were taken aback by the price, because spending nearly RM30 for a plate of pasta is just outrageous. But we heard that there are fire shows at certain times so we tried to justify it.
After waiting for about 15 minutes our food came and… we just couldn’t believe what we saw LOL
The pasta looks like something you’d see in a primary school canteen or kindergarten lunch. There were no other ingredients to be seen aside from pasta. The portion was SUPER SMALL too. It looked like the exact opposite of delicious and appetizing.
But you can’t judge a book by its cover so we held our complaints and gave it a try. It was SOGGY AND EXTREMELY BLAND. 🤢 And no we still didn’t manage to find any other ingredients underneath other than maybe a mushroom or ham sprinkled here and there in some plates. We all ordered different choices of pasta, there’s Aglio Aglio, Carbonara, Creamy Mushroom etc. but they more or less tasted the same. Aglio Alio did not look like Aglio Olio, and most of them were extremely oily as evident in one of the pictures I’ll attach below.
For this price range of RM30 and above, you’d expect a meal that if doesn’t look good, at least tastes good and vice versa. But nope, they really gave 0 effort in making the food taste good or at the very least, look good. It’s actually unbelievable that they even have the courage to serve these dishes to customers’ tables. I honestly think that anyone who’s trying to cook pasta at home for the first time in their lives could do better than that.
And they charge 10% for service too, which is common practice for most eateries nowadays but after they messed up our reservation and took way too long to get us extra menus, it felt unjustifiable, especially on top of the already overpriced and terrible food.
To conclude, unless you’re okay with paying double the price for some of the worst food you’ll ever have at a restaurant, DO NOT COME HERE. It’s way too overrated and absolutely not worth the time and money. There are similar places nearby with way better food and much more reasonable prices than this. Awful experience and never visiting again, all of us...

We had one of the most frustrating dining experiences at Strait Mansion, and I feel obligated to share this to prevent others from facing the same disappointment.
Misleading Promises and Unprofessional Behavior: My friend had planned a special proposal to his girlfriend at this restaurant. We made a reservation for 7 people a week in advance, coordinated directly with the owner, and even pre-ordered our food, requesting it to be served by 7:00 PM. Over the phone, the owner seemed warm and supportive — he congratulated my friend and promised to do his best to assist in the proposal setup.
However, when we arrived early to prepare and asked for minimal support (such as asking whether fireworks could be used nearby), the owner’s attitude completely flipped. He started ranting about how he hates proposals, calling them “troublesome,” and even remarked that this was the reason he remained single. We were stunned — it was inappropriate, unprofessional, and downright rude, especially considering this was a moment we hoped would be memorable for all the right reasons.
Poor Environment: The area was infested with mosquitoes. It was extremely uncomfortable, and clearly no effort was made to manage or warn guests about this issue.
Terrible Service and Dishonesty: Despite confirming that food would be served at 7:00 PM, we waited until 7:45 PM and still hadn’t received our main dishes. Upon asking, we were told that staff delayed our food because “no one was at the table” — a blatant lie. We were all seated nearby the entire time, and the proposal itself happened right next to the dining table. It was clear they were trying to cover up their poor kitchen management.
Inconsistent Explanations and Excuses: Even more baffling, we noticed that other tables also hadn’t received their food, which contradicts the staff’s excuse that they prioritized other guests. Their stories were inconsistent and it was obvious they were just trying to shift blame.
At the end we just left the table with disappointment.
In summary, Strait Mansion was a complete letdown — not only for the poor food service but more importantly, for the lack of respect, professionalism, and basic hospitality. A proposal is meant to be a cherished memory. Instead, the restaurant’s attitude and behavior left a bitter taste that overshadowed the entire night.
I would not recommend this place to anyone planning a special event or even a regular meal, unless you’re prepared to be ignored, misled, and...
Read moreWe made a reservation more than 10 days in advance for a group of more than 10 people, expecting the restaurant to be prepared for our arrival. When we got there, a very kind and patient lady helped arrange our seats and started taking our orders. She was polite and accommodating, and we truly appreciated her effort.
However, what happened next was completely outrageous. In the middle of taking our orders, a man—who seemed to be the cook—started screaming at her all the way from the kitchen, demanding that she stop because he was the only one cooking and couldn’t handle it. Not only was this unprofessional, but he also started shouting vulgarities, creating a hostile and uncomfortable environment.
This behavior is absolutely unacceptable for any restaurant. If they cannot handle large reservations, they should not accept them in the first place! Instead of calmly addressing the situation, this cook chose to scream, curse, and make a scene, embarrassing both the staff and customers. It was so appalling that we immediately stood up and left.
We feel sorry for the lady who was just trying to do her job, but we will never return to this place, and we strongly advise others to avoid it as well. No customer should have to deal with this level of disrespect and...
