Review: Makan Pagi by Fizzy Cafe
During my recent visit to Makan Pagi by Fizzy Cafe, I had the opportunity to try a wide variety of their breakfast offerings. Here’s my detailed take on the flavors, presentation, and overall experience:
Cucur Manis Sambal Bilis: 4.5/5. The cucur was delightfully sweet, pairing well with the sambal bilis. However, the sambal was slightly too salty, which affected the balance.
Nasi Lemak Bilis Telur/Ayam: 4.2/5. A well-executed dish with nicely cooked rice, fresh ingredients, and great presentation. The only drawback was the sambal, which leaned a bit too salty with an overpowering shrimp and chili flavor.
Half-Boiled Eggs: Perfectly prepared with a smooth texture and excellent presentation. Simple and satisfying.
Roti Bakar Arang Telur: 3/5. While the flavors were decent, the bread was a bit too hard, making it less enjoyable. Personally, I’d prefer a softer texture for a better eating experience
Roti Jala + Kari Ayam: 4/5. The chicken curry was flavorful and rich, but the roti jala didn’t quite meet expectations in texture. Despite this, the overall taste was enjoyable.
Cucur Bawang Kuah Kacang: 3/5. The cucur’s texture was harder than ideal, and the kuah kacang was overly salty, impacting the dish's overall appeal.
Wantan Mee Sup: 4/5. A simple yet satisfying dish with well-balanced flavors.
Horkasai Hot: 3.5/5. A unique blend of coffee and chocolate with a great flavor profile, but it was a bit too sweet for my preference.
Chilli Pan Mee: 4.8/5. Undoubtedly the star of the meal. The bold and balanced flavors made it an outstanding dish. Highly recommended.
Satay Ayam & Daging + Nasi Impit: 3/5. While the flavor was decent, the meat was a bit tough, which detracted from the overall enjoyment.
Mee Kari Ayam: 4.7/5. One of the standout dishes, perfectly balanced with a mildly spicy and savory flavor profile. Not too salty and thoroughly enjoyable.
Kue Teow Goreng: 4.7/5. A fantastic fried kue teow dish, generously packed with ingredients like shrimp, vegetables, and fish balls. Well-seasoned and flavorful.
Overall Impression: Makan Pagi by Fizzy Cafe offers a varied menu with a mix of standout dishes like the Chilli Pan Mee and Cucur Manis Sambal Bilis, alongside others that could benefit from refinement, particularly in texture and seasoning. While there’s room for improvement, it’s a great spot for breakfast with plenty of...
Read moreI finally got the chance to try Makan Pagi in Permatang Pauh after hearing a few people rave about it and I have to say, it was definitely worth the stop.
We ordered quite a spread. Lontong, meehon kari, 2 sets of roti bakar, roti jala, coffee float, kopi orang kita, cucur bawang, and dumpling. Honestly, almost everything we tried was delicious and satisfying.
The meehon kari stood out for me with rich, creamy, and full of flavour. The kuah was perfectly balanced, not too spicy but still had that comforting “kick” I love in a good bowl of curry noodles.
As for the lontong, it was okay, not bad, but I felt it could have been better. The kuah didn’t quite have the depth I was expecting.
What really made an impression, though, was the coffee. Both the coffee float and kopi orang kita were superb. That classic, bold flavour just hit the spot. I love how it reminded me of the kind of coffee you get from those old-school kopitiams and the one that my nenek use to make. Sinple, strong, and full of nostalgia.
Another surprise highlight was the cucur bawang. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside and when dipped into the kuah kacang, it was next-level good. That peanut sauce was thick, savoury, slightly sweet. It just perfect. I could’ve had a whole plate to myself.
The roti bakar was crunchy and nicely buttered, a nice classic breakfast touch, and the dumplings were a light, tasty addition.
Overall, I really enjoyed my breakfast here. It’s a cosy spot with flavours that feel homemade yet memorable. I’ll definitely be back especially for the coffee. Still thinking...
Read moreHighly Recommended Relaxed/Cozy Kopitiam Vibes Space clean, and spacious for large groups, but parking is sort of limited. Need to order at the front of the place, then they will seat you. Service/Staff was informative, helped with recommendations, no issues with them. Food/Drinks *Roti Bakar Arang (2.5/5) honestly nothing special, just that the bread is coloured black. *Roti Jala (4/5) 5 roti, with a small bowl of chicken curry. thick and flavourful gravy Chicken Stay with Nasi Impit (4/5) size was OK, standard fare. A bit more kuah kacang would be a nice. *Mee Kari (4/5) curry was flavourful, tasted the spices, and overall sedap. *Kopi Orang Kitah (3.5/5) aside from the butter used in making the coffee, I didn't feel any special with it. not a coffee lover, so just tasted like decent coffee. Price overall I think it's OK for a kopitiam concept 'cafe' around RM 80+, for 4 persons. Overall Experience Would definitely come again for the kopitiam vibes, but parking it difficult especially early in the morning. Payment...
