After seeing high praise by Youtubers and polite comments/ratings about this eatery, we decided to visit for lunch on a hot Friday afternoon (April 14th).
However, our experience was disappointing. Despite promoting itself as an eco-friendly and low-carbon concept eatery, the restaurant seemed more focused on glamor than genuine sustainability features. While they did use a lot of wood and bricks in the non air-conditioned eatery, it failed to provide a comfortable and sustainable dining experience.
The interior space felt like a sauna, with hot air constantly being circulated from the central kitchen into the dining area via the ceiling and standing fans. We had to change tables twice within the interior due to the unbearable heat, which was frustrating and time-consuming just to settle down. The experience was made worse when we had to browse the menu with our phone and when making an order via their website, which was quite laggy and hung many times at payment (they only start preparing our food upon successful payment). Finally, after all the drama, we had to settle for an outdoor table, which was so much cooler even on a hot afternoon.
Although the operator thought that the ceiling fans and many standing fans around were helpful in reducing the perceived temperature in the space, in fact, they did not actually lower the temperature of the air itself and did not provide a comfortable environment. Due to a lack of understanding in removing hot air from the upper levels of a space to improve air circulation and reduce the temperature within the space, even with many openings on the sides to the exterior, natural airflow will not be successful.
Being situated within the timber factory, the unavoidable smell of wood shreds and dust was a little irritating to the nose. While the restaurant does have some corners that are Instagrammable, like a walk to the rear where the timber factory is, with some interesting exhibits related to timber, the food is just average and drinks without coffee taste, and the prices were slightly on the high side for such standard.
In summary, this restaurant will not be a place where we will spend money for a second time. We believe when one spends money to get not-so-nice food on top of a failure of the ambiance, it can result in a negative dining experience. Even if the food is not up to the person's expectations, a pleasant ambiance can make the overall dining experience a little more enjoyable.

Blending a wood furniture company (Bukit Merah Wood Products) and Sun Yin Loong (The Father of White Coffee) is really an unexpected combination but the RED MOUNTAIN SUN YIN LOONG 新源隆白咖啡主题馆 delivers 👍... Great food and excellent Ambience. Located within Menglembu Ipoh, parking is ample and (did I mention?) the coffee 5 🌟 is the best.
The cafe is operated by the Pioneer of white coffee in Malaysia, the famous local coffee shop Sun Yin Loong (old Town),which is one of my personal favourites. Ok back to the food.
We had the Nasi Lemak 5🌟 which was covered with Sotong and Shrimps, which comes with soft (hard) Boiled Egg, a speciality here. The egg feels very much like those Japanese Onsen Tamago (Hot Spring Eggs).. Which was delicious. Actually it is paired very well to the Nasi lemak.
We tried the Curry Chee Cheong Fun which was nice 4 🌟 and also Nyonya Kuih 3.5 🌟 to go with it. Not everything here is good I suppose... Including the Caramel Custard 2.5 🌟 which was so so only (taste was ok but it wasn't as smooth as expected).
We also tried many stuffs here including the Paper Wrapped Chicken 3.5🌟 which Btw is an Ipoh special. Well it wasn't too bad.. Just that it didn't turn out as expected. Didn't have that full bodied Ipoh flavour.
Basically this place is self service but they gained much cookie points 5 🌟 for offering us a FREE private room complete with a rock fountain with fishes 🐠. They also scored high points as this is actually the first restaurant in Ipoh that doesn't stress you out (people waiting next to you for your table), have ample parking, nice and peaceful Ambience and doesn't cost u an arm and a leg. You can take your own sweet time chit chatting.
Since this place is a Facebook, Instagram and social media magnet, please feel free to search the web for more pictures. Will definitely visit this place again in the near future. Highly recommended for tourists too.

Read moreVery natural atmosphere with abundance of wood and wood products decos. In fact this eatery is operated by a sawmill company & situated in an industrial estate where the sawmill was operating. Now it’s focused on decorative wood 🪵 products.
The Kaya Steamed Cake was previously served with Kaya (coconut cream, eggs, sugar & pandan leaves) already spread in between the cake but now it’s served in plain Steamed Cake with Kaya in a separate mini jar. I prefer the old style of layered Kaya style & not the current presentation, which is more classical.
As for the egg tart, pastry crust is flaky but laced with overly sweet flavour. Whilst the curry 🐓puff with hint of lemongrass & small pieces of chicken meat is pretty flavorful but it’s taste even better with added moist.
As for the iced coffee which is sprinkled with grated coconut 🥥, the grated 🥥 seems to be laced with traces of “aged oil taste”, sign of rather old stocks of grated 🥥. A daring concoction & great for 🥥 lovers.
The surrounding atmosphere is one of a kind & what’s more situated in a most unassuming location (within an industrial estate). Very rare with such “woody” ambience where one probably won’t find another in this country. A truly unique atmosphere. In short, it’s an astonishing atmosphere but with mediocre food offerings. A 5-⭐️ for atmosphere but...
