Hidden in an industrial area of Tasek, Ipoh, Kopitiam Soon Wah might not catch the attention of most people unless they work nearby or happen to come across it online—just like I did. I visited for the first time after seeing a Facebook post promoting one of the stalls offering nyonya curry and various other dishes at affordable prices.

We tried the nyonya curry and prawn noodles. Taste-wise, both were just average. The flavours weren’t particularly rich or bold—the curry wasn’t thick or fragrant enough to stand out. While the pricing initially looked attractive (RM5.50), it turned out to be for a smaller portion, which wasn’t very clear at first glance. The normal portion is RM7.50. Thankfully, the stall owner did take the time to show the difference between sizes, which I appreciated.

We also tried the chee cheong fun (RM5.50). While the portion didn’t quite match the price tag, the sauce was notably good—nicely balanced with sour, sweet, salty, and spicy notes that made it more enjoyable.

Drinks were standard and refreshing. We had two teh O lemon and one iced coffee, all of which were decent and reasonably priced.

The real standout of the visit was the service. The middle-aged aunty waitress was very attentive throughout, and the young waiter was polite and welcoming as well. Their hospitality definitely lifted the...

Saw the ads in Facebook and give it a try. This kopi shop is over ratted. The RM4 food is a scammed bcos this is only a small portion. If you want a normal portion the price is not cheap as they claimed. My wife order a big bowl prawn noodle (aka normal size), paid RM7 which is not special big bowl. Just normal compare with outside. I have ordered a won ton mee. 1.5x noodle with costing RM7.50, I think this is normal as well. Normally I ordered double noodle at other places is around RM7.80 or RM8. Therefore again I don't think this is cheap. Based on the taste, is so so, average. The kopi according to my wife, she said other places much more slightly kao. At last I tried a nasi lemak, RM2 as usual. The rice is not big portion but the sambal is tiny version. I left the white rice at the end due to the rice is too hard also the sambal not enough to eat. Again, I think this is expensive. When I arrived I was wondering, why there's a lot empty tables around. The environment is bad, because it was on the main road, one of the busy road in Ipoh. Don't let the hard sell advertisement fool you. Anyway, just give it a try if...

Food quality n taste 👍not stingy on ingredients. Ordered vinegar pig trotters with rice & yang zhou fried rice. The vpg is rm8.00 with rice n vpg served separately. Portion of rice not big, not enough to wat with vpg, being so tasty ( for me la ) can put in some extra vege to balance the taste. The yz rice rm6.00 comes in on a small plate which looks not filling but when u start eating, u will see the variety of ingredients in it i.e chinese sausage, fish cake etc. It very fulfilling even for a young 15yrs old. The teh ice comes with a metal straw 👍environmental friendly. Deco is unique with all sorts of antique vase, jugs tables esp nyonya styles. Next round i will try their tong sui for a change. Btw their menu also have lam mee,pan mee, har mee, kai si hor fun too (local coffee shop style noodles, if...

The best dumpling (Bak Chang) is the one that is moisten from inside with the pork's juices and natural oil... At Makan Nyonya that's exactly what you would get. On the part for the kuih- muih, they're thoughtful enough to cut it in half and it's made with fresh ingredients to bring out each flavour and to combine them together when you are eating them. Don't get me started on the chai kueh, the effort put into the jicama (sengkuang) and the surprise that comes with every bite presented by the dried shrimp is definitely eye opening and a missing taste in many places but not here. The conclusion, a must visit in Ipoh for good, quality and affordable nyonya food.

Little gem of Nyonya cuisine tucked in an unassuming location. Menu is extensive; a mix of Nyonya and Ipoh delicacies... while their Ipoh menu is average at best, the same can't be said of their Nyonya menu. Love the homecooked taste! Run by a few generations in the family. Would recommend their nyonya laksa, lam mee, prawn mee and tomyum dry noodles.. drinks are fancy too such as English tea, blue pea with lemon. Coffee isn't too bad as well considering the affordable price range. Great place to return to with friends and family. Service can get a tad slow with crowds.. some waiting is expected but won't exceed a couple of minutes before they seat you.
