Tl;dr: Muslim friendly Chinese seafood restaurant in Southville/Bangi! Click to read!
This is the second branch of Hokkaido Seafood in Chow Kit, KL. It is a smaller operation at this outlet but you don't lose in terms of service. It's still the friendly and efficient service you get at their main branch. Even though we were the only table on a Tuesday night, the staff were proactive and took care of us throughout.
What you do lose, however, is in terms of their food. Selection and freshness of the seafood is there (live seafood is available). However, their dishes lack the oomph that makes people return time after time to their main branch.
The deep fried garoupa was decent. The seasoned soy sauce was tasty but the texture of the fish was definitely lacking - a theme that is common throughout this outlet's dishes. Same goes for the dry butter squid and steamed fish.
However, there are some stars here. The lemon chicken is great and so is the dragon leaf. The Kam heong crab is good. Well executed classic Chinese dishes.
Prices are on the average side for a Chinese Seafood restaurant. There are peers that are much more expensive.
If you are particular with ensuring your meals are certified halal, skip this place - it's only pork free. However, if you are open to it (like me and my family) it's a great way to satisfy the urge of Chinese seafood without going to PD or suffering through KL's jam to their main outlet.
Would probably not return as there are other Muslim friendly Chinese seafood places in the southern Klang Valley that are better. The only exception is if you're looking for a place that is spacious and can have large groups that are loud due to the option of...

Read moreWanted to eat their seafood and got to know about the other branch in Southville City Bangi.
I personally prefer to eat here as it’s spacious and has plenty of parking.
Their seafoods are fresh from the tank right to our table. Especially the oyster. It was kept fresh when served on the table too; with ice and lemon slices on top. If you’re not into raw oysters, you can request for a steam oyster too.
I had the signature Siakap 3 rasa. My first time having 3 rasa Chinese style. It was not like the usual Thai 3 rasa. So it was definitely a new experience for me but it was tasty and I ate most of it.
For the crab, we went for sweet and sour Mud crab. It tasted quite similar to chili crab but not spicy so it may be suitable for kids too. Crabs were sweet and gravy was to my liking. Generous amount of gravy too! Paired it with my soft steam bun.
The salted egg squid was to my liking because the batter is not too thick and the squid was perfectly coated.
I also had Kam Heong clam. Like the flavour as it was well seasoned.
The ambience gave me an authentic vibe of a real seafood restaurant. Not a hipster seafood cafe but the ones that you would go to for a genuinely good...
