This is the first time I give 3 stars review, let’s see why. Service - one of the worst I’ve experienced. Do not expect to hear “thank you” “please” “excuse me”. For example, when you tell her your order, the response is “yeah”. Service staff have NO SMILES AT ALL. We asked a trainee to take our order, he couldn’t do it, fine we understand but he could’ve asked another staff to do it but instead he asked us to wait for another staff that is taking order at another table. Service staff grooming is horrible. One of them has hair so long that it’s touching the table when she served. Some of them has a bun, but it’s a messy bun with hair sticking out up down left right. Not professional at all. Generally, every interaction with the service staff you’ll have here is just rude, unprofessional and cold.

Food - portion was on the smaller side. Taste is acceptable but at the price they are charging, I expect a little bit more in terms of food quality and taste. We ordered a sukiyaki and according to the menu, the photo shows the sukiyaki set comes with a plate of raw sliced beef, and a pot with stove, where you cooked the beef in the broth, dip it in a raw egg and savour. BUT NOPE NOT HERE, the sukiyaki that was served is not according to the menu. No raw beef slices to be found. When questioned, the staff told us that the beef is already cooked and in the broth (no apologies no further explanation why it’s different from menu). Ok fine maybe the restaurant didn’t wanna serve raw food but why the raw egg is still there. The broth is already not boiling hot, it’s quite disgusting to take out the already cooked beef from the not-boiling-hot broth and dip in the raw egg. There’s even a part of beef stuck on the pot handle!

Price - honestly the price here is on the high side considering the portion, taste and quality. Something like normal Japanese food standard but way more expensive.

The only plus point is, dining environment and ambience is comfortable and spacious.

Anyway, pretty sure I won’t return to dine here again.

To those you that has read my whole review, thank you and I hope it helps you make better decision on choosing where to eat. If the owner is reading this, I hope you will work on the training of your...

Hikari Zen definitely looks elegant and enticing in its advertising, but this is very deceptive and the restaurant can be absolutely chaotic if you chose to dine there.

In its badly written introduction in the menu, Hikari Zen promises sophistication, a cultural experience and a visual performance offered by the chef in the open kitchen.

But the reality management has created is not Zen and staff are badly trained to handle problems they create for expectant diners.

The menu itself is so confusing we actually didn't know if we were being served a cocktail with alcohol or not - literally.

More importantly, the service we received when we dined there was so slow, my son and I had finished our meals well before my wife had even been served hers - for a duration of a full 25 mins she had to sit and watch us eat whilst all the staff simply ignored the problem of no food delivery for her.

This is both unprofessional and absolutely unforgivable in this type of restaurant.

The funny thing is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the food. If and when it eventually arrives.

The Hikari Experience for us was an extremely bad one and the responsibility for the multiple failures we endured is 100% down to a cavalier attitude by management to their customers, despite the prices they charge.

If management can't even check their own menu for grammatical mistakes or serve food in a reasonable , timely manner, they are certainly not going to give a Zen experience to their customers.

And realistically, there are multiple Japanese restaurants in Setia Alam at half the price, double the value, with better management that give a considerably better experience to their customers than Hikari "Zen"

No customer service. No customer recovery. No customers...

Recently visited this restaurant that was charging prices that are equal to some of the most high-class Japanese restaurant in KL, and I have to say that I was extremely disappointed with the experience. I was expecting a top-notch culinary experience for whatever they are charging.

First of all, let's talk about the prices. I was astonished to see that the prices for some of the dishes were so high. I was expecting to be blown away by the quality of the food, but unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. The food was lackluster in taste and presentation, and overall pretty mediocre.

I ordered two fish that supposedly came from Japan which is very expensive but came out not cooked properly and lacking flavor. I couldn't believe that I was paying a premium price for such poor quality food.

The restaurant had a nice ambiance but it wasn't worth it to me to pay premium prices for a subpar meal. The experience felt like a total rip-off. I feel that their prices are unjustified for the quality of food that they serve.

In conclusion, it’s better for you to save yourself some time and money by going to some of KL’s top Japanese restaurant because it’s the exact same price as whatever this Japanese restaurant is charging. This restaurant just doesn’t deliver. Not only is their food lacking in taste and presentation, but their prices are also unreasonably high. Save your money and treat yourself to a different, more upscale restaurant that actually lives up to the prices...

Tried this place just last week and went again the next day. Pro: - Nice layout and ambience. Has a vey relaxing feel to it - The servers are inexperienced and I see a few trainees but they tried their best as long as they keep learning and improving it's not a fault. At least they ones that served us was attentive - I honestly enjoyed the food. I ordered a Zaru Soba which was springy and tasteful, a tofu hotpot to share which was affordable and refreshing and a grilled hamachi which was excellent. - The price was on a higher side for some dishes but I guess it's also due to the location - Free Green Tea (Always appreciate the little touches) Honestly I am just happy that Setia Alam is getting more variety and options of Japanese food from the affordable to the ones which can be on the higher end. I think having options is always a good thing to have and each person can tailor their taste, budget and experience to what they are looking for. For that I am thankful Cons: - Service can be a little slow. The food turn up rate in inconsistent where most of us are served except one fella. Would be good to improve the consistency or the layout of the meal to ensure that everyone is served more or less the same time instead of one person still waiting for the meal where everyone else is almost done. - Appetizers came in the middle of the meal which highlights my 1st point but always room for improvement.

Great ambient, nice selections of Japanese cuisine. However, please bring a magnifying glass to browse the menu as it is too small to read. We were lost at what to order due to the fact that not enough pictures to illustrate the food. Update: they had changed their menu and I'm happy to say that you don't need a magnifying glass to read the menu anymore! Yay! There are pictures to help you to identify the food in the menu too! However, waitresses and waiters still need more training especially the ones whom take your order. Gave us lots of wrong information as they are not familiar with the sashimi entre. Though the team is generally polite and efficient, the ones that take orders must improve on their knowledge in the restaurant. Overall food quality is good and the great ambient makes it a great choice to have good and quality Japanese cuisine in this area. Recommended!
