Subsequent reply to owner: Thank you for your response and the clarification. I now understand the distinction between Shiang Hai Craft Cuisine and Mama Kim Wellness Kitchen. However, during my visit, I was seated on the right wing after entering from the main door, but I wasn’t informed by the staff that there’s a separate wing for the vegetarian area. As it was my first time visiting, this caused some confusion.
I believe it would be helpful if the staff could inform customers more clearly about the different sections upon arrival to avoid any misunderstandings, especially for first-time visitors like myself.
Also, just to clarify further, does the vegetarian section have a separate kitchen from Mama Kim Wellness Kitchen? I’d appreciate knowing how the two are managed. Thank you again for addressing this, and I appreciate your efforts to ensure a better dining experience.
We recently visited this so-called ‘vegetarian’ restaurant, expecting to stick to our vegetarian diet, but was in for a surprise. The menu had a seafood noodle option, and we mistakenly assumed it was vegetarian seafood. To our shock, it turned out to be actual seafood, which we nearly ate on a day we were supposed to be strictly vegetarian. This is definitely not what we’d expect from a vegetarian restaurant!
The restaurant should make it clear on the menu that it’s not fully vegetarian, so customers are fully aware and can make informed choices. Service was also on the slow side, with the whole staff seemingly made up of foreign workers, who seemed a bit overwhelmed.
Overall, if you’re looking for a true vegetarian dining experience, this place might not be for you. Make sure to double-check your order before digging in!
Overall atmosphere is nice, except...
Read moreThe menu is surprisingly innovative. You would not know you're in a vegetarian restaurant at all! like the precious reviewer mentioned, it's more like fine dining with explosive flavours that are intricately balanced and beautifully presentated. It's truly a gastronomical adventure.
Definitely try sushi rolls! We had berrylicous and sunshine - both were well above expectations! We also had the fish head noodle (vegetarian) which was also very good.
The atmosphere is like a casual minimalist Japanese restaurant (think Rakuzen or Sushi Zanmai but a bit more casual) with nice instrumental music and aromatherapy to complete the zen vibe. Side note to admin if you see this: hope you can upload the playlist on Spotify. There was a song I tried searching for but couldn't find.
Anyhow, special shout-out to Emma! She courteously explained the opening promo to us and we were so impressed that we shifted from non-vege section (Mama Kim) to here, because of her patient and insightful recommendations. She also explained the difference between the sushi rolls, what were the signature dishes and what soupy dish was nice. Almost everything we ordered were based on her recommendations, and it turned out amazing! Somebody give her a raise!
Definitely a place to come back, especially if you want to treat vegetarian folks to something truly unique...
Read moreI recently had an outstanding experience at Shiang Hai, a vegetarian restaurant that surpassed all my expectations. The food was exceptional, with fresh flavors and high-quality ingredients that catered to a range of tastes and preferences. The inviting and trendy ambiance created the perfect backdrop for a delightful meal, whether for a casual lunch or a special occasion. The staffs are very friendly too. From the visually stunning presentation of each dish to the attention to detail in every aspect, Shiang Hai is a must-visit for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians looking for a unique culinary adventure. I can't wait to return and savor their delectable offerings once again. Just that the environment is a bit crowded, many people were talking, the distance of the table is a bit far, need to speak...
