We booked a boat and snorkelling tour at the mangroves and ocean. Visiting the fish farm, which is more a zoo than a farm, was an unexpected part of the program.
At this ‘zoo’, never have I witnessed such animal cruelty during my travels before. The large fish (among others stingray, leopard shark, grouper) are kept in extremely small exhibits in which they only can swim small circles. It is very obvious that these animals endure large stress because of this. They are being fed as a means of entertainment to the tourists. When fed they get pushed and touched by them.
Smaller fish are being kept in plastic trays submerged in water. These included lobster, small grouper, and blowfish. The latter is picked up out of the water, after which it inflates; a sign of stress and self-defence. The panic in the animal is clear, however the personnel and most tourists do not seem to care.
Please shift the focus of your fish zoo to education, fresh products, and exhibition of only smaller and local fish. This will not only raise your quality and ethical standards, but also more tourists will enjoy a pleasant stay at...
Read moreNgl, I would not choose this place had I not book a mangrove tour package with Klook which includes a complimentary lunch provided by this floating restaurant. The lunch meal was fine actually, which comprises rice and chicken cutlets plus drink and some cut oranges as dessert. What was NOT OK is the additional steamed fish that we ordered, which turned out to be super overcooked and has a very strong muddy smell. I feel sorry for the fish instead that we have not live up to the reason of its death! Even though the chicken rice meal was free, the bill for the sea bass (RM18+ per 100gm as of ordering) and crispy fried prawns came up to RM130++, comparably higher than main land. We don't mind paying (we sus the boatman who took us on the private tour would take some commission out of what we ordered) but at the very least, cooking basics should be done right la. The only credit I can give is the view (located just opposite the Tanjung Rhu jetty) and that it has toilets where you don't need to pay for using unlike some places in mainland. A regrettable choice made, I must say,...
Read moreThe visit to this floating seafood restaurant was part of the mangrove tour (klook) and its the last stop before the ferry takes you back to the jetty for disembark at the end of the tour. Our package (purchased last min) did not include the lunch and upon enquiring with our tour guide/boat operator, he suggested we still try to eat at the restaurant as once we are back on mainland, there are not alot of restaurants that are closed by for lunch options. It was quite crowded as boats after boats of tourists were all offloaded here for lunch. We quickly queued and placed our order with the cashier (to pay immediately after ordering). We sat down to enjoy the welcoming cold drinks that we ordered and were quickly served to us. Food came a while later and do note that what you actually get will fair far from what's presented in the pictures in the menu. The meat portions were quite small. Taste was not that great too. Saw a lot of other tables having half eaten leftover meals speak volumes of the food quality here. Not too sure its a recommended place to visit...
