Visited Sale e Pepe on a Monday night for dinner (c. 2019) and the experience was incredible. Waiters were really professional and the food was to die for. Although we arrived early for our reservation, the waiter who greeted us was very kind to direct us to choose a table inside and have a drink until our outdoor table is ready (I suggest making a reservation before visiting).
For dinner we had: Bruschetta, arancini, olive bread and focaccia to start with (these have a cover charge of €2.5, which is written down on the menu). Moving on to starters - veal carpaccio and homemade fettuccine with wild boar ragu (one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had with a very rich and delicious sauce). For mains we had the fillet of beef with sweet and sour vegetables and the sous-vide pork belly - both were incredibly tasty, perfectly cooked to the desired temperature, and the presentation was top notch! Finally, for dessert, we shared a portion of their crema catalana - very good and refreshing, and very different from other desserts as its flavour reminded me of that found in chai. All paired with a bottle of Côtes du Rhône.
A memorable experience over all, and will certainly visit again! Even though Price is on the higher side, you are getting what you are paying for - worth it.
Review update: Visited again for dinner on a Friday night (September 30th, 2022) and glad that the experience was as good as when I visited the first time. Food was excellent, waiters were extremely nice and helpful and overall experience was amazing. Will definitely...
Read moreOverall, my experience was unpleasant and left me frustrated by the end of the night. I visited the restaurant with my companion, and although the location is undeniably attractive, the service left much to be desired.
From the moment we were seated, it was clear our table wouldn’t be receiving much attention. Our waiter seemed to be juggling roles as both bartender and server, which might explain the lack of engagement-but it certainly doesn’t excuse it. No one checked on us after taking our order, and no one cleared our plates once we were done. At one point, I even placed my empty wine glass at the edge of the table, hoping it might prompt someone to offer another round. No luck.
The final straw came when we asked for the bill. It was handed to us without a word—no offer for dessert, no polite inquiry if we had enjoyed our meal. For a restaurant that appears to aim for a refined, high-end atmosphere, the service was far from what one would expect.
As for the food, it was hit or miss. Some dishes were genuinely enjoyable, while others were just forgettable. Given the price point—on the higher end—I would recommend exploring other nearby options. There are several charming spots in the area that looked just as appealing, if not more so, and likely offer a better...
Read moreA friendly, tranquil restaurant with staff that makes your visit a real pleasure. Add to that the well made dishes and you're in for a very nice evening.
After ordering our mains they brought some complementaries. Different types of bread with butter and after that some nice risotto/cheese fried balls and bruchetta with tomato/basil/olive oil.
For our mains we had the seabass with aioli and the lobster ravioli. The presentation of the dishes was good. No unnessary toppings. Good portions and VERY good flavours
After this we just had to ask for the deserts.
The Crema Catalana and Deconstructed Cannoli with a cup of tea made the whole...
