Excellent. Beautiful spot, beautiful food, super reasonably priced.
Travelling to Malta from Australia, as someone with Maltese heritage my partner and I kept going back again and again. Staying in the St Paul’s Bay/Bugibba area it was a shame to see so few traditional restaurants.
This place had everything, from fresh grilled fish with chips and salad, steaks, generous platters and of course the traditional Maltese favourites like ravioli, grilled lampuki fish (in season), rabbit and octopus.
Watch the sunset over the water with a wine or Cisk (local Maltese lager) and the Maltese platter which comes with olives, cheeses, capers and bagilla (traditional Maltese bean and garlic dip), all served with fresh crusty bread spread with Kunserva (tomato paste) and olive oil.
Get there while there’s still plenty of sunlight because it’s a gorgeous place for a swim too, it’ll be you and the locals because they know it’s a great shout. It looks humble, but I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. We loved it! If you want a genuine Maltese island dinner, get out of the tourist traps of Bugibba and...
Read moreCame across by chance the Simenta cafe / restaurant on a walk about in St Paul's promenade area overlooking a bay with lots of small boats anchored. Saw the orange umbrellas below us from Promenade, and we were feeling hungry. we thought we would have a look. At first glance it didn't look much but what a surprise it was , full of locals and a family friendly set up and so we found a table and read the good options in the menu. We changed our minds a few times after seeing the big portions of various foods being served. You order and pay at the window and take your name , I thought that was a bit strange but I was told that when your food is ready, your name is shouted out and you then collect food from the kitchen window. We both had big salmon and soft cheese,Maltese bread ,sandwiches, a drink each for € 22. ( for the record there is a toilet) .... Great thank you all....
Read moreHad a lovely lunch during the week. The views of the sea and St. Paul's island, where supposedly St. Paul was shipwrecked, are very tranquil to view & relax. Ducks were plentyfull, walking just outside the restaurant. A few cats & pigeons also shared the space. The food portions are good value for money and everything tasted just great. I had locally freshly caught octopus 🐙 stew with grilled vegetables and salad. My husband had 6 pieces of yummy 😋 rabbit stew, grilled vegetables and baked potato. Afterwards we had imqaret, which were large & warm just right with tea and coffee in the cold weather. The staff are all extremely friendly and accommodating. Very relaxing & satisfying. Indoor & outdoor sitting, with parking space around...
