My husband and I had a fantastic meal here on May 4th. Having looked thru trip advisor and Google to try something 'Maltese' we came across this little gem of a restaurant. Service was fantastic, family run by husband, wife and daughter as junior chef. A great selection of wines, spirits and beers on offer and priced fairly. We both went for similar but very different goats cheese starters, amazing! My husband was looking for something authentic and Maltese whilst I wanted something fishy so he went for the half rabbit and garlic and myself jumbo prawns. Absolutely divine. I think my husband would have bathed in the rabbit lard and bread if he could. For desert, I had deep fried chocolate ravioli. Never knew you could do this but oh my days it is a thing of beauty! My husband had a traditional Maltese date desert with some kind of Turkish sweet and it was like nothing we have ever eaten. We have truly loved our meal here this evening, so much so that we have reserved to come back again later this week before we leave to go home. It has been our favourite meal and experience during our stay and we have even been to a Michelin star restaurant during our stay in Malta but the whole overall experience here tonight trumps it. Please, if you are visiting St Paul's Bay come to this restaurant, whilst it's off the tourist path and set back and further out from other restaurants you will not be disappointed. Support a local family too which offers exceptional value, food...
Read moreHi, the account you incorrectly replied to was not mine but someone else at out table who was also disappointed by the experience.
We ordered a platter to start with and a kids meal for the kids. Upon serving the platter, the waitress immediately asked us what else we wanted to order. We told her we’d decide after the platter was eaten. She then returned twice to ask us what else we would order. This is rather bad form seeing we hadn’t even started or finished the platter. Her insistence that we order more food left a bad taste in your mouth, but we chose to ignore her sales approach and enjoy the meal. An elderly friend joined us half way through only to be promptly told he couldn’t use the chair he was sitting on as it had been booked. Odd, there were 11 free chairs. She then went on and on and on about the restaurant being fully booked (there were 5 free tables at that point). Our friend reassured the agitated waitress that he would leave as soon as the chair was needed.
It was at this point in the eve that we decided it wasn’t worth continuing our meal there and changed locations.
In future you might want to specify that you expect diners to eat/oder a minimum amount before they book. We’re not big eaters but it was plainly obvious that the waitress wasn’t satisfied with what we had ordered. Secondly, beamrating an 80 year old man for using a chair is plain rude.
Other than that the platter was very good however the kids meals were average at best. See the...
Read moreI guided a group of 14 people on a trip. We didn’t make a reservation but we were near and the hotel receptionist had recommended the place to try Maltese food. It was 8pm but there was a free table for 10 people upstairs, so I suggested splitting the group, but the nearest bar was 10 minutes away and we weren’t local. Then, the woman invited us to leave the place so the people coming in with the reservation could sit down. Going out, I saw a couple just arrived and landed on a table for four while the table for two was ready to leave and the girls were offering the table. The madame said she could not change this recently-arrived couple to the soon-to-be-left table for two so that she could accommodate all of us. Then, she closed the door on us. The hotel was 20-30 minutes away and we had to walk that much to find a place to eat. Of course, we never made a reservation to come back. This situation would have never happened in Spain, where the bar would have done anything, including making people wait for half an hour with a drink, so as not to lose 14 customers. But...
