The reason why I give a 3 star is because we were not impressed with the valentines evening. The canapés were so so. The starter of duck terrine was the worst terrine I have ever tasted. It did not taste like duck at all, more like chicken or pork. The pineapple did not go well with it all all nor did the spiced bread. We complained but it fell on deaf ears. I have emailed them too to ask what the hell was in that starter and if there was pork? and no response. We don't eat pork and I am worried that is what it was although no mention of pork in the set menu. After that the dishes were good. The fish very tender but the sauce a bit too sweet. Then the lamb came again very sweet. However, I loved the lamb and it was so tender. Now the menu was very expensive and it said that each person will get a proseco or cocktail but we had to share a small bottle of proseco between us. Then they made the desert and again we had to share that too!! They said the chocolate fondant was made bigger than usual for sharing, so ok understand the logic as its valentines and romantic to eat out of one plate lol. There was no entertainment and the decor was not that great even though they tried to create a romantic atmosphere. We sat outside and it was nice. The service was OK but not excellent as expected at this restaurant. Our friends who came with us said its normally much better than that and I am guessing this was mass cooking and not attention to quality but rather...
Read moreI was at La Table du Chateau with my wife and daughter on Saturday 16 June 2018. The restaurant was not crowded. A guitarist was playing some very nice classic relaxing tunes. Ambiance was thus great. We were given the menus as well as the wine list rapidly and our orders taken as soon as we were ready to order. There’s a good variety of cocktails and spirits to choose from. I ordered a Green Paradise cocktail, whilst my daughter had a Cinderella Fruit cocktail. Both were excellent. For our meal we all ordered for the starter the Terrine de Foie Gras. For the main course my wife had the Magret de Canard (Breast Duck), my daughter the Souris d’Agneau (Braised Lamb) and I had a Boeuf Bourguignon (Burgandy style Beef). The starters were served very quickly. The Foie Gras was outstanding. I would attribute a 5/5 for it. I just wonder if it’s imported or locally produced. Perhaps if the chef reads my review he will reply to that. We all appreciated our main course with a good Wester Cape Cabernet Sauvignon of Oude Kaap winery. My wife and daughter had both the Crème Brulée for dessert. As far as the service is concerned, I would attribute 4 out of 5. They were very attentive and...
Read moreFirst visit at La Table du Chateau. The location is enchanting, overlooking the Chateau of the Domaine Labourdonnais (historical building - must visit!) and it’s garden. We chose the seafood menu and ordered a bottle of Puilly Fuissé. We were first offered a excellent amouse-bouche, a fried fish cake. Followed by the first course, a red tuna tartare with citrus, which was refreshing and well adjusted in terms of flavors. Next we had beetroot spaghettini with a prawn, I did appreciate the freshness of the seafood but the presentation was a little bit underwhelming. Next followed a seafood bisque, a dish I absolutely cherish, the crostino with goat cheese was a lovely touch and the gnocchetti were good. I personally like a more “punchy” bisque. Next came the main course, a half lobster tail with mushroomy sauce, accompanied by pak choi and a purée of taro. Although the whole dish was well prepared, the presentation can be improved. We had a refreshing tamarind sorbet, made straight from the garden fruits. I salute such initiative and I loved it. We finished with a grain crumble, topped by ice cream and zabaione (which was excellent). The staff was very attentive and warm...
