La Hornilla — Restaurant in Baja California Sur

We ate here three nights during a recent week long trail riding tour supported by Captain Baja, out of El Cardonal. The food, service, and atmosphere far exceeded my expectations. It's a family run restaurant and it shows. The menu is expansive but not overwhelming, giving everyone many options to suit their palate. I had the Tequila Penne Chicken, the Gorgonzola Pear Pizza, and La Hornilla . . . each fantastic dishes! The service is friendly, warm, and not rushed, with staff taking their time to describe with pride each dish while offering their preferences. The food here is very well cooked with a European flair. I thought my plate was a bit too heavy on sauce and mashed potatoes ... I personally prefer a "cleaner" simply grilled fish in Mexico and a nice side of beans, chili sauce and avocado but this is thoughtful cooking that will appeal to many with the added benefit of cheerful and amusing service.. One of our favorite restaurants anywhere because of the quality of the food and the skill with which is prepared. The atmosphere is very casual, service is punctual and attentive. The owner seems to be constantly changing the layout of the restaurant slightly but the menu is fairly consistent and always top notch as are the prices. We've tried to order ahead but it seems like it doesn't really save us a whole...
