Palapa Azul — Restaurant in Baja California Sur

Since 2017, my all time favorite small beach bar, in the heart of Playa el Tecolote — Palapa Azul. A variety of seafood dishes , clear blue beautiful waters, attentive servers, music, lots of tables and chairs, and lounge chairs are available on the beach. Other establishments charges up to 500 pesos to use their beach tables and chairs despite if you’re buying food and drinks. Playa Azul does NOT charge customers. Food prices are comparable.

Likes: fresh mix ceviche, clams on half shells, seafood cocktails, paloma and mojito drinks. Bartender Chavo sure knows how to make them mojitos. Recommend!

Made the trip back to Palapa Azul (10/30/24) at Tecolote Beach. Today’s experience was good, food, drinks, ocean, fun until we received our bill. As I have mentioned on our last visit to Palapa Azul (9/18/24), we have never been charged for tables and chairs ever. Just to be clear, paying a fee to utilize tables and chairs was not the issue. They simply failed to disclose these additional fees before hand. To add, those fees weren’t even listed on my bill, or anyone else’s. From get-go, they should have allowed us the opportunity to make the decision.

Very disappointed in Palapa Azul. It’s no longer my all time favorite small beach bar. This will be our last visit, but will not be our last visit to Tecolote...

This USED to be our go to when hitting a beach in La Paz. Best bloody mary we've ever had. The guac and frijoles are great and beer is bien muerto! Service has always been great too.

THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE EVER SPEND ANY MONEY THERE!!!!! After 8 years, the new manager told us we had to pay chair rentals even if we ordered food and drink. We have NEVER had to do this prior. He said it was their new rule this year. We were a group of 8 and ordered $1200mxp in food and were still charged $800mxp to use the lounge chairs.

Total TOURIST...

Over an hour to get food. We should have realized we were going to get really bad service since the waiter didn’t even reply to our greeting. Took a long time to get our drinks, and when asking about the status of our meal, we simply got a shrug from one of the ladies there. Never checked back to see if we were needed more drinks. Really bad service. Bring your own food and drinks in a cooler, or simply go to any other of the businesses around. Shouldn’t get much worse...
