Overview: Come here for drinks and appys, bring a sweater, don't be in a rush, and go somewhere else for dinner.
I went in a group of six people, and my first impressions were very good. Very atmospheric, with a neat walkway (lit up green at night) through some trees and bushes. The walkway led to a merch stand, where we talked with a man and waited for a table as we had no reservation. When we were seated, we noticed the chilly air and I immediately regretted not bringing a sweater (so this is my PSA to you!).
As far as decor, it is beautiful. Open air, beach-side restaurant with dim green lights lining the beach and woven shades over the bar. It provided an upscale and sophisticated atmosphere, combined with the sound of the waves and a beautiful night sky. Along with this comes some chilly air that makes it semi-uncomfortable.
And now for the service, drinks, and food. It was all extremely variable. By the time we were seated and got our first appetizer, my guess is 45 min had passed. I was in no rush and didn't mind too much, however we were asked if our appy could be a different meat 35 minutes after ordering (as they ran out of what we initially ordered). So bad planning on their part. They all seemed a bit too busy to pay much attention to us, yet still had lots of time to talk amongst themselves. None of the service was terrible but rather extremely underwhelming for how nicely The Green Room presents itself.
In regards to the drinks - the care, attentiveness, and presentation of the drinks made it top notch. They are expensive (250 pesos for a margherita), so it is your choice on that. Fresh fruit and garnish, and deliberately made with a good (albeit expensive) selection.
And lastly, food. GO FOR THE STARTERS! Special shout-out to the Rosarito beach rolls. $300 pesos for six, but the taste is well worth the cost. Absolutely delicious and exactly the kind of wonderful creation I would expect from The Green Room. The other party members got a combination of starters and a salad and loved every bit. Now for the honest truth - the tacos were some of the worst I had. I decided to try the Shipwreck, and I sincerely regretted it afterward. Cold, with three small tortillas that fell apart, practically tasteless, not enough sauce, and $270 to top it off. If the octopus and shrimp were warm and tasted like something, it could have made a difference. But all I got from it was that the meat was...cooked. I was extremely disappointed with this food when compared to the beach rolls I had shared. I heard the tostados were not much better.
So there is my overly long rendition of my night here. Do not come here for a meal, but please try the starters and drinks for a relaxed,...
Read moreWe drove out to The Green Room from Cabo San Lucas at the recomendation of a friend. It is quite the drive. The last several miles are narrow dirt roads but Google Maps took us straight to it. Amazing, amazing location! We sat at a table in the sun right on the beach. We watched whales breaching non-stop. Pretty cool. Its a casual place with a high class feel to it. There was everything from skimpy bikin clad females walking around to the fairly well dressed. We ordered drinks and it took a LONG time to get them. Mind you this was 2:45pm and they were not busy, the majority of tables were empty. We were not in a hurry so no worries. We orderd several plates and everything was amazing. The tacos are very, very small. Maybe 3 inch shells. The smallest taco I have ever gotten at a restaurant. A big eater could easily, very easily eat (9), 3M's Strips tacos which would be 3 orders and it would run you $57USD. So quite spendy, but amazing nonetheless. Our friend, who has travelled the world, said the Baja Malibu Salad with seared Tuna was probably the best salad he had ever eaten. And this coming from a serious vegetable gardener who pretty much lives out of a suitcase for work , he is in a different city all the time eating out at restaurants.
A couple of us ordered a second beverage and it took 20 minutes to get. The others wanted to order a few minutes later but we had already been there over 1.5hrs and we didnt want to wait so long for the drinks. We had to drive back to CSL before it got dark.
If I could give 4.5 Stars I would only beause the service. I rounded up instead of down because of the food.
The service was okay. This is not an inexpenisve place, $200USD+with tip for a very light lunch for 4. When one pays those prices for food one expects a certain level of service. I mean there we only 4 of us. It's the little things like knowing who ordered what drink. Who ordered which entree. Stopping by from time to time to see if we needed a drink which we did. But opted out of a round because we didnt want to wait so long. Watching out to see when we needed the bill. Our waited just disappeared and we finally hailed down another waiter because we got tired of waiting. It's those little things that really make a difference and complete an "experience" meal which what you get at The Green Room. I spend Winters in CSL and eat out ALOT. I frequent MUCH less expensive places with amazing food in CSL, who have much better service. That being said, I would go back in a heartbeat and hope they had done some front of the house training because the Chef...
Read moreSo overall the location of the place is nice since it is directly at the beach and also the waiters were nice. We were looking forward since we heard a lot about the place. It seems like this restaurant is the only restaurant at the beach close to Todos Santos, so I guess they don´t have any competition and therefore it is so hard to get a reservation and they can charge a lot!
I have been to a lot of other restaurants before all around Mexico, which were also located directly at the beach. Mostly, there I felt that the prices are adequate for what you get. Here, I felt like they just charge a lot, because they can and they know all the tourist will come (since there is no competition, as I said). The prizes don´t stand in any relation to the quality you get. 100 Pesos for a corona? I´m sorry that is a joke!
For the price range we are talking about in this restaurant, the food was completely average and rather simple. The tuna was way too dry. The dessert is a joke, I am sorry, you pay almost the same prize for the dessert as you pay for a main dish. You get a sugary tostada with 5 balls of ice cream out of the freezer. Nothing hand made, nothing special, not even a bit of fruit which could explain the high prize for it a bit.
In a good restaurant you charge a lot because the ingredients are fresh, handmade and you have a great service. Here, I cannot find an explanation for the overpriced food and drinks. Looks to me like, they just try to get as much money as they can out of tourists! Not cool at all! I like to spend money for good food in a good restaurant, but this feels more like a rip-off. Sad to say but I am completely disappointed and would not come...
