Over the last 4 years we have visited Magoni at least 100 times or more. The staff is just amazing to us and remember our names. Shout out to Gladys, Hiram, Joshua and all of the team. Thanks for taking great care of us, we spend special days at the Tree, birthdays, holidays, we bring the family sometimes but it is mostly just Laura and I. The wine is really good and the atmosphere has been improving with every visit, honestly, its getting to big, I liked it more when it was smaller but I understand that things grow bigger and the expansion allows more people to enjoy. The music on the weekends is good, starts at 1 pm. We arrive at opening most days (11am) after 3 or sometimes more bottles we call it a day. Most people go to the Valle and jump around all over trying to rush it,....NOT US! we just go to Magoni, it is very special and its all about relaxing. Lots of dogs, so bring some treats for them. The deli is open now, a few types sandwiches and of course olives and cheese...and some other cool things.
A few things, make a reservation in advance, let them know your coming. Bring a throw blanket, it can get cool under the tree. Eat a big breakfast, the wine can sneak up on you. Go during the week and maybe have the tree to yourself, it has happened for us and we stayed all day till it closed that time.
FYI, don't sit down before checking the dust on the chairs etc, not a big deal for me, but my Girl she gets little mad about it.
Magoni is on many wine list in Mexico, the Tijuana restaurateur can easily swing past the Zona Rio Hub to stock up on a few cases!!! Enjoy...
Read moreThere are some reasons why I am giving this place a not so great rating. The first is the wine was OK, not great. Another reason that I was not impressed by this winery is because of the impression I had that Bodegas Maroni is purely interested in profit when customers come in for wine tasting. We ordered a wine tasting of 2 white wines and 1 red wine for $250 pesos (approximately $13.50 USD). I thought this was a fair price except that when we had our first wine tasting we were served 1 oz of wine, the wine bottle had literally a shot glass measuring spout that limited the amount of wine in the glass. Given that a glass of wine is approximately 5 ounces, I was pretty shocked that that was the amount we got. I had hopes for the second wine tasting but nope again we got ONE ounce of wine. I made a comment to our server and she told me that they could not serve more because they would “get in trouble” so now they are under sharp control. (Geez that’s not a nice work environment I thought!) On the third glass the server gave us a little more, she removed the 1 oz measurer and gave us a little more, thank goodness. In the end I couldn’t help but be disappointed and I didn’t really enjoy the wine knowing I’d get about 2 sips and be done :-/ I ended up wishing we had just bought a bottle (for the same price). So my impression is this establishment cares more about racking in the money rather than giving their customers a fair taste of their wines. I won’t be coming here again.
No...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to visit this place in hopes of a great experience. We’re originally from Sacramento, Ca and decided we wanted to visit Ensenada and try some wine. I had high expectations of this place due to it being highly recommended, however it wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. The wine was okay, I mean I’m not an expert but for my palate tasting it was too bitter. Upon arrival and ordering our wine, our table was taken so We sat near where the employees kept walking by. Staff seemed very serious and not welcoming at all. We also experienced somewhat of racial discrimination from a lady who seemed like either a manager or owner. Overall the place was simple but nice, wouldn’t really recommend unless you have no other place to go. Won’t be...
