Dmytri's is our longstanding Sunday evening dinner place in front of the roaring fire, soaking up the ambience, Paco's lovely guitar/vocals 7 nights a week. Other times we go to the terrace for lunch overlooking the beach/ocean. Here is how we deal with our own cultural iqnorance, maybe this can help others. 1) we ask questions about how any dish we might order is prepared, especially anything new to the daily menu. In detail. That is how we decided to pass on the brisket. 2) we give the waiter explicit instructions as to how we want our food prepared. They always pay attention to that. If they don't, as once in a great while has happened, they get to do it over. Which they always have done without complaint. 3) we take our own wine because they only have low end L A Cetto. Corkage is 100 pesos. 4) we speak up if there is any lack of attentive service, we don't just sit there steaming. I mean 2 hours without service, who would put up with more than 15 minutes ??? Even on the rare occasions in the last 10 years that we went to speak to the maitre' d. All that said, we have found they are at their best with seafood and traditional steak/beef items. The prime rib off Juan's cart is very good, (my favorite) while my husband loves the fresh swordfish lightly grilled with butter/garlic/lemon. Nirvana! Also the petite filet mignon ( $ 10.95) done rare, comes with their house bean soup, salad, baked potato and veggies. Don't miss the loaded nachos at lunch. And the lobster feast is well worth the price. In short we love this place. And Splash, and Happy Hour, and Raices, and Cafe at Puerta del Valle (except Cafe do not know how to cook eggs without browning them.) As to stars ratings, i'd give 4 1/2 because we reserve 5 stars for "absolutely unforgettable" on all fronts, of which we have given damn few in our 60 years of restaurant dining,...
Read moreLa Fonda so much history here It’s a quirky place always in need of a remodel Nice to sit outside and watch the surf Sunday was jamming with peeps & live band too loud to talk inside It’s never had great food but the prices for bad Mexican food in mexico are a trap of being a tourist destination. We are in mexico do some quality control ! -The guacamole had no seasoning at all. -The chips are greasy and cold, possibly days old .. -The black bean soup cold. -The salad, call me traditional but I don’t want papaya on my green salad slathered with ranch dressing, no bueno. -The shrimp lunch at $35 for 6 shrimp with refried beans ( &rice which I substituted for a little spinach) is underwhelming but don’t worry the price will overwhelm ur wallet.. -Mojito. Way too sweet nice detail with rosemary though. The waiters had to come back to repeat part of the order because they didn’t write it down .. forgot cutlery and napkins after being asked ..We were overcharged 3 cocktails “an accident “ so check your bill. I’ve been coming here since the early 90’s I live south of ensenada and usually stop here to use the bathroom and walk my dogs I’ll stick to that and skip the meal from now on. The women’s bathroom usually has nice white Lily’s and could do with a remodel esp with the prices being charged Also the Valle de Guadelupe is close and has delicious food excellent service so imo if ur hungry head...
Read moreHad a great time in this place . I went twice. First day for dinner and I was seated with my 3 kids in the best spot overlooking the ocean inside. The atmosphere was amazing !! Great live music and customer service from waiters. The food was excellent ! I loved how the entrees came with yummy bean soup, a delicious salad with Papaya and at the end a superb Mexican coffee with Kalua and tequila. The decadent chocolate cake was delicious and it was shared with my 3 kids. They loved it ! I ordered liver and my husband ordered the fish tacos. Kids had the grilled chicken . Honestly everything was truly amazing and the food was great specially the grilled chicken ! I personally don't eat much so between the salad, soup and the salsa and chips I was done 😂. In total we spent less than $100 for a party of 5 and with delicious made in house drinks (orange juices and margaritas). The only reason I gave 4 stars is because I also went for the brunch Sunday and we thought the food was greasy and the choices of drinks were interesting (no breakfast choices like coffee, tea or juices) but the brunch was totally worth it for the price of $24 a person and half for kids. My toddler didn't even have to pay. I would definitely go back if don't get stuck on the TJ border in...
