Every time I pased by La Cabaña del Abuelo on muy frecuent trips to Ensenada or Tijuana I saw dozens of persons waiting in line to be acommodated on the next available table. So, I had to visit this restaurant following the trend imposed by an important number of people traveling 45 miles from the nearest city to live the culinary experience in this place.

My wife, my mother in law and I arrived the place at 8:30 a.m. and were greeted by a nice hostess that immediately escorted us to our table located in the second floor. During the short walk I was able to appreciate the small details that give La Cabaña del Abuelo that feeling of being at home: old farm utenciles hanging on the walls, a chimeney, stuffed animals and a family portrait depicting who I asume is el Abuelo surrounded by his grandsons.

All in all the place is nice and I would have expected great food but....but it was just, errrr....barely acceptable. The coffee was awful and when we ordered tortillas we got only 3: one for my wife, one for my mother in law and one for me (?).

Please don't take me wrong here. I am not the kind of guy that is always looking for fansy foods or michelin starred restaurants but, since I used to be a hotel administrator in Valle de Guadalupe (Encuentro Guadalupe) and ran a restaurant (Origen) I think I know a thing or two about good food.

In summary I will say that La Cabaña del Abuelo has almost everything to be a very succesful restaurant but they need to improve on food preparation and...

This is a very dangerous restaurant, my family and I stopped there for lunch the other day. I parked my car in their private parking lot and went inside the restaurant to eat; we were there for about an hour, and when we came out, my vehicle had two broken windows. They broke two windows trying to still my car with our personal belongings, including Ipads, cell phones, and a purse with monies.

This restaurant has a private parking lot, security cameras, and security guards. All of these are just for show to make you feel safe, but the reality is that these people work as a team, employees, and thieves to rob customers while eating.

The restaurant’s general manager, Cesar Garcia, and the restaurant owner refused to take responsibility for the damages. They refused to give us access to the cameras to find out who had vandalized my car. They also said they had sent the security guard home 30 minutes before the incident. What a coincidence.

Please let me know if you have experienced...

2022: The place is huge and well established, the atmosphere is amazing, cozy, and wondrous. The staff are kind and professional. The food is divine, the pasta was delicious, the mushroom sauce was magnificent, the chicken was tender and flavorful. The ribs are to die for, they fall off the bone, and the bbq sauce is mouthwatering. Lastly the beef with veggies, beans, and rice, I don't remember the name but it was really good definitely recommend trying each dish with the family.

2024: the waiter was absolutely professional, stellar performance, guy was very chill, we had ordered the same pasta from two years ago and supposedly it had ham, however, none of the orders had any on there, they didn't mention they were out of ham. The lady at the souvenir section tried scamming us. beware y'all. Bring with you someone who knows what it's...

I went here a week ago for Mother's Day and it was so packed outside. There was a wait of 30 minutes to be seated. I thought it was no problem if the food was worth it. My husband and I had high expectations for this place and we went there because he was told good things about it but honestly, the food wasn't all that. The steak was too overdone and it was kind of hard.. not tender or moisty. We also got pasta with cilantro sauce and shrimp and that did not taste good. Cilantro sauce and pasta don't mix. It's better to just order pasta with alfredo sauce or pesto in general or even spaghetti sauce... The only good thing was the queso fundido we ordered. The place looks nice from the inside but I don't recommend this place. It's too overrated and the prices are high. I regret coming here.

The place is Fantastic. Super wonderful in and out...but various dishes can be better seasoned. For first timer, the drive was a bit far but It was worth the scenenary of Rumorosa town. Prices are reasonable. We had their Salmon and the quail like bird Patridge (Perdiz) since they ran out of Rabbit. Salmon was small portion for the price but a bit dry (overly cooked). The bird was good potion but seasoning was not the best so it tasted like chicken with mild soupy flavor bathed sauce Salad needed some work was just basic. Distance from Tecate is 35min or so. I may go next to try other dish and see.
