Piloncillo Panadería — Restaurant in Ensenada

I first discovered Piloncillo Panadería through HappyCow during one of our trips to Ensenada while planning our wedding. I was simply looking for some good pan dulce con café to start the morning off right. After a disappointing cake tasting elsewhere, I remembered that Piloncillo made some adorable little cakes. On a whim, I reached out to ask if they made wedding cakes. While they don’t advertise it, they had done a few in the past and were open to doing it again.

We had a lovely (and somewhat impromptu) cake tasting, which gave us a chance to sample a few options and share them with our coordinator and venue team—neither of whom had ever tried a vegan cake before. They didn’t even realize it was vegan until we told them! That was exactly what we were hoping for, since people often expect vegan desserts to be subpar.

We gave them a unique challenge: create a three-tier cake with the bottom two tiers being faux. It was something they hadn’t done before, but they were completely open to it and executed it flawlessly. No one realized that most of the cake was not real—it looked perfect from every angle.

We’re incredibly grateful for how carefully they listened to our vision. They took inspiration from reference photos we provided and coordinated directly with our wedding planner to ensure the decorative flowers on the cake matched the blooms used throughout our venue space. While Piloncillo Panadería does not offer delivery, picking up and dropping off the cake ourselves on the day of the wedding became a fun little task—and everything went smoothly. We placed it on the stand just before opening the venue for the reception.

The cake was beautiful, delicious, and—most importantly—enjoyed by our guests. We’re so thankful we found Piloncillo Panadería. They delivered in every way...

Pastries are good, all vegan, some gluten free. You can also order full GF cakes with 2 day's notice. Coffee was delicious. Pastries are significantly more expensive than non-vegan counterparts elsewhere, but if you are looking for vegan pastries, you won't be disappointed.
