Before going to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary, I read the reviews and was surprised to find a few negative ones. I was immediately put off and didn't want to go. But my wife talked me into it and so we went.
First off the valet parking was a nice touch. I haven't seen anything like that here. Of course it's a bit silly cause they just park your car in the parking lot behind. I could have done that and wouldn't have seen it as much of a service.
Upon entering someone opened the door for us and it was very professional. The ambiance was nice but the view is not pretty. Outside is a busy street and across the street are typical houses that look worn and miserable. No sunset view or water or scenic mountains.
Sitting down we were greeted nicely by our waiter but we had to ask for napkins. They hadn't set the table like the others in the restaurant around us. These details for a place like this is unsettling.
When our food came, we were served our starter of six very small oysters. Tasty but underwhelming. We also had to ask for salt and pepper. A little candle or light at the table would have also been nice. This is supposed to be the best restaurant in town. But again small details go missing.
The main course was duck for my wife and seafood fettuccini for me. My dish was again underwhelming. The dish was as small as could be. It could have looked so much better in a white oversized dish. And a little plate for the clam shells would have been appreciated. The dish also had some hard bits like sand from the seafood. As if the food wasn't washed.
My wife's duck was good but the portion was small. The waiter had a habit of coming by when we were putting food in our mouths and asking how it was. We laughed about that but it was a bit annoying.
The food didn't have a lot of flavor. It was good but I'm not sure if we'd go back. I could make the seafood dish at home and make it taste better with more of everything.
It was a nice attempt but like everything here in Mexico nothing really stands out. We go out mostly cause we get tired of cooking but after every venture out we get back to cooking our own food and it takes weeks before we do it again.
A bit expensive for what it's...
Read moreBased on my experience I do not know how anyone could give this place less than 5 stars in any category. It was more than a meal. It was an experience. Stellar staff from the Maître d' to the wait staff. Miquel was funny, engaging and thoughtful as a server with the the perfect amount of attention. The chef is to be commended. The words impeccable, delicious, outstanding, and superb all come to mind. The Maître d' checked in with us, and all the tables, which was a nice touch. The food. It will take multiple visits to experience the well thought out menu. We had to try three different appetizers as they all seemed well thought out. Nice wine list as well. All in all it was a 9.9 out of 10 experience.
(That missing .1 was for the music choices. Could be more subtle but that is my personal taste. Something instrumental would be much more akin to...
