We were staying in Valle de Guadalupe for a night and didn’t have reservations. Called up D’varios and they said we could come in right away. Fantastic.
But they didn’t mention that a large party had just left and their kitchen was no longer serving half the menu…
We ordered the steamed mussels, caprese salad, aguachiles, and ribeye steak with mashed potatoes.
Mussels: We have ordered steamed mussels in the past, 2x already on this same trip. Usually cooked in wine. D’varios makes this dish with chile and random cherry tomatoes. it was more like a spicy soup. this was a no for us.
Caprese Salad. Imagine a bunch of cherry tomato halves with mozarella pearls and basil sparsely laid out on a plate drizzled with sticky balsamic glaze. It was edible, but a little sad.
Aquachiles - Some people don't mind their shrimp still raw (not marinated in lime long enough) when eating ceviche or aguachiles. We asked before ordering. They were still partially raw and the sauce (again, more of a soup) was close to room temp instead of chilled like usual.
Ribeye Steak: I'm torn on this one. The flavor was good. But it wasn't cooked properly. The sear was only on the perimeter of the steak. The center had been steamed. Parts of the steak were medium, parts were closer...
