My wife and I decided to do independent travel with the use of a private car and licensed guide It turns out this is easy to do. Just outside of the ship terminal’s commercial area, after navigating the several guides who stationed themselves on the aisles, there is an outside desk labeled “Licensed Guide Service.” There I ask if there was a guide available for a 4-hour tour of the city who spoke English well and had an air-conditioned car for a specific price that I mentioned. There were quite a number of guides around the table and immediately there was good response. I spoke to the nearest individual and found what turned out to be a perfect fit. His full name was Jose Luciano Callejas Gonzalez, or Jose as he introduced himself. He had a very clean and well-appointed Ford Expedition and was a very experienced 30 year guide. To exit the terminal area, the guide and we had to be checked out by the officer in charge and later, upon our return, again checked it. It turns out that only guides with certificates that are used by licensed guides to enter this area are limited and the activities are tightly controlled. It was just a perfect set up and I highly recommend this method of doing independent travel. We were driven all over this beautiful city and shown from the old town to new town, including the amazing beach front with so many modern and architecturally beautiful hotels, apartments and condos. He also took us to the “Old Hollywood" of the famous Pink Flamingo hotel. He made sure we were able to see the shops in the Old Town merchant area. My wife is not as mobile as she was before reaching 80 and Jose was totally helpful to her. One of the things he did was to get us in the restricted area of the Mirador Acapulco hotel to watch the cliff divers so that she did not have to negotiate the significant stairs. The hotel Is located directly above the cliffs from which the divers jump. The view from there is superb. The charge was reasonable, only a little over $10, including a couple of drinks each... We avoided all the stairs going down to the cliffs and had a shaded nice restaurant table overlooking the entire area. My wife could not have managed the steps so this was a perfect solution. I liked Jose so much that I sent joselcallejas88 extra thanks. Fortunately, he uses Gmail so it was possible. I appreciated him so much I gave him a 50% tip and my afterthought was it probably should have been 100% for the great job he did. It was so easy to get off the ship and find an authorized guide in the well-controlled system that the city has set up. I thought lucked out to have Jose. Sin duda una chilaqueria en la que vas a encontrar muchas opciones para este típico platillo mexicano. El lugar es pequeño pero muy bonito, se ve que va en crecimiento.
