We were staying at Secrets Aura about 3 mi down the road from Alberto's. Saw online that they had great reviews and wanted some seafood as the restaurants at our resort weren't really fulfilling our needs. My wife had guacamole and shrimp quesadillas and I had a shrimp cocktail and conch sauteed in garlic butter with steamed vegetables and garlic toast. The guacamole was good my wife said and also the shrimp quesadillas were also excellent as I tried them myself too. My shrimp cocktails did not have the traditional cocktail sauce to it with horseradish it was more of a ketchup cilantro and pico de gallo mix. Which was good but not what was expected. now the conch that I had ordered turned out to be the least good thing of the whole meal. I have had conch before and it was much better than this. This was way overcooked and rubbery as a pencil eraser trying to eat. I've had counch before fresh caught and raw on the boat as well as fresh caught and cooked in a curry and it was sweet and tender both times. This stuff was like eating inner tube almost. Total bill was about $61 American or 1220 pesos. Most of the entrees and such run from 10 or 15 or $20 on up from there to the seafood platter for two that is $80 that includes two lobster tails fish fillet and shrimp among other things, vegetables and such. About a $10 cab ride from our hotel 3 mi down the road there and back so another $20 to the bill. If it's close enough to one of the resorts to walk there then probably would be a good place to get away from the resort for a different meal. Taking a taxi there increases the total overall bill substantially really. Their food was good and we went there in the evening around 7:30 to 8:30 at night. Still people there and the beach was lit up and we got to watch the sunset which was nice. During the day I'm sure it's more active and things happening and going on and more crowded. But they were still a number of people there at the hours that we were there. All and all I would say it's just about an average place. There are two others located at Puerto Maya and one in downtown. Those may be better than the beach one that we went...
Read moreReally nice and amazing place to eat and going for a swim at the beach, which they keep really clear and clean mostly. I think you can even arrange a boat tour with them but I’m not quite sure. Their food was alright considering that most of the food that you get served at these sort of places is somewhat bland, overpriced and more akin to what your average American tourist would like. And It’s still a bit overpriced since they can give themselves the privilege of doing so because they’re a beach restaurant… They’ve a varied and tasty menu on food & drinks that is really interesting and not at all bland. And also if you come here looking mexican, speaking spanish and paying in Pesos do not expect the most impeccable of costumer services considering that those waiters reaaally want those tips in Dollars/Euros. Im saying this because i lived a somewhat awkward experience because i was told they couldn’t do anything about my table being directly under the sunlight because they “aren’t supposed to move their parasols” but as soon as an American family arrived they did exactly that and moved their parasols for them. And that’s not really a complaint i have against this place specifically but it’s something that happens a lot in tourist destinations in Mexico. Outside of that this place is fine, they often play live rock music at night giving this place a vibe that you don’t often see at beach restaurants. They also don’t play reggeaton in their speakers 99% of the time so that makes them distinct from every other beach club i guess… They’re definitely...
Read moreI was really wanting to like this place . The localization is great But after a nice welcoming the service was so slow I was on the edge of leaving without ordering. Never was offered water (90°) . Neither some tortillas with any mex dip We order 2 Coronas , one grill Mahi and a chicken quesadilla The mahi was ok but cooked with steam vegetables and a potato. Since when and where in Mexico the mexican food comes with steam vegetables . I was looking for a more traditional mexican food such frijoles , yellow rice , pico de gallo , etc The quesadillas were tasteless, even the chicken was grilled it taste like just frozen cooked in a microwave Well we ate all (hungry after few hr visiting cozumel) The while paying the waiter make me a remainder the service (tip) is not included . First service (tip) must be gained is not mandatory and after waiting for 20 min . No water , no appetizers.and a tasteless food . I dont think they deserve it . However since Is my tradition I tip 15%
Only reason 2 starts is cause the having food on the sand next to a nice beach (nature deserves those 2 starts ) restaurant would get only 1
Oh btw if the waiter is reading this . A good service and a good food would have get you a 35% tip without you...
