A fonda in Mexico is a restaurant with inexpensive home cooked food with generous portions. Fonda Típica Verónica, however, had with some unusual items on the menu like conejo( rabbit), cordóniz(quail), and colorines( a reddish flower that is shaped into a patty and fried. ) The restaurant was pretty with brightly-colored tablecloths and piñatas hanging from the ceiling. Waitress was a bit overbearing-when my friend passed over half of a plate of milanesa de pollo for me to try, the waitress came over to tell me my food was coming- really? Also when we asked for a set of silverware, instead of just grabbing one and giving it to us, she searched our table and had everyone looking too- it was really kind of ludicrous. My friend asked for a spoon for her soup, and the waitress gave her my husband’s spoon! Two of us ordered the daily special- the soup was a very plain bean soup with a few tortilla strips in it. Dessert was the tiniest little bowl of fruit cocktail you have ever seen with a dot of creme. Prices were expensive for a fonda. Fuimos cuatro personas. Dos pidieron mole, una pidió pechuga y alguien más pidió una sopa de tortilla y un cóctel de camarón. El mole estaba bueno pero tenía al final un gusto acedo. Una de las personas que pidió el mole ya no se lo quiso terminar y lo compartió con alguien más. Las verduras que venían de guarnición con la pechuga estaban descompuestas, ya estaban agrias e incluso un poco babositas. El cóctel de camarón no estuvo muy bueno, tenía de esa catsup industrial de sabor avinagrado y el exceso dulce. Las dos personas que pidieron el mole y la que lo probó, se enfermaron del estómago. El servicio y la atención no fueron malos, pero tampoco buenos. Para llevar el cóctel de camarón tardaron un poco más de media hora después de que quien lo pidió se había terminado la sopa.
