My wife and I visited this place so as to taste the famous Huevos Motuleños on our latest trip through Yucatan and Quintana Roo. After our landing at Merida Airport, my wife and I were quite starving, so, we decided to commute to Motul to have some Huevos Motuleños as breakfast, it was a 45 minutes drive from the airport. We parked our car just aside the Carrillo Puerto Park which is some few steps from the November 20 Municipal Market, where Doña Evelia’s Venue is located. The place is settled at the upper level and almost a half of the floor is owned by Doña Evelia’s place, it has enough room to sit very huge groups, surely you will always find a table. The service is fair, not too slow, not as fast, just be patient. The crew is very friendly and attentive, if you request flavoured water, your glass is refillable. The main dish, huevos Motuleños are impresive, tasty and deliciosos, what we liked the most is the habanero chilli taste, its flavour is unique and adds a spicy touch to your meal. The course is served along with beans and fried banana slices. If you are not used to eat spicy food, be careful, this dish adds habanero as a main ingredient and tends to be quite hot.

We stopped here on the way to Chichén Itzá. It was only 25mins from where we are staying in Telchac Puerto. Very cute little town. This area was buzzing and the market was open and busy which was nice. All units were up and open and full of items for sale. We didn’t have much time to look around, but what we saw was nice. The building itself was clean and filled with nice smells. It had two floors. We had breakfast at Dona Evelia’s which is better than we expected. We’ve been in Mexico over two weeks so far and this by far was the tastiest meal we’ve had. The service was fantastic and the place was very clean. The meal includes a side of fried plaintain, unlimited drink (ice tea, Jamaica or horchata) and a bottomless basket of bread. For four people we paid a total of $410 which is unbelievable. We will definitely be back for more huevos motulenos! UPDATE: We came back the next day for breakfast again and it was just as good as the first time! This time we had the postres as well. We ordered one of each: carrot cake, banana cake and milk cake. They were delish! Had to pack them up because they were so big! There was live music this day which was nice too.

Doña Evelia is a well-known spot in Motul, famous for being the birthplace of the now country-wide known dish, Huevos Motuleños. While the dish is good, I personally find it not as special as its fame suggests. The Huevos Motuleños consist of a plain tomato sauce with green peas and ham served on crispy tortillas with eggs and beans. While I enjoyed it, my personal preference leans towards Huevos Rancheros, which are usually more flavorful. The place itself has a charming atmosphere, and the service is impressively fast. However, in my opinion, it is not really worth making a special detour from Merida, as you can find equally good Huevos Motuleños there now. A significant downside is that the place can get quite loud, and the waiters from this and other nearby restaurants often compete for the attention of diners, which can feel a bit uncomfortable. On the positive side, I do like the Huevos Motuleños and the speedy service. The coffee, although weak, has a pleasant hint of cinnamon that I enjoyed. Overall, Doña Evelia is a nice place to visit if you are in Motul, but it may not be worth a special trip just for the Huevos Motuleños.

Absolutely Delicious! Doña Evelia’s Huevos Motuleños are a masterpiece that truly honor the tradition and long-standing expertise behind their creation. Every bite is packed with seasoning and flavor that’s second to none. The experience goes beyond just the food—Doña Evelia and her team are exceptional hosts, making every guest feel welcomed and cared for. This was hands down the most pleasant breakfast experience I've had. If you're looking for authentic Huevos Motuleños, this is the place to be!

¡No te arrepentirás!
