Bland cocktails. The service was chaotic. They kept having to ask again what we had ordered, and told us we were at table number 53 to avoid a mix-up with other tables. Tapas and pizza were ok. The most confusing moment for me was at the end when they were delivering a drink, and the waitress told me that a bug just dove into it on the way from the kitchen to the table, and she wanted me to keep it. She insisted it was okay because the bug had just recently entered my drink. She "generously" offered to take the bug out herself. I understand we were in an open area near the jungle. So we dealt with bugs during our entire stay ourselves. When the guacamole arrived, my nieces yelled when they saw a spider crawling over the vase as the waiter was putting it on the table. I just grabbed a napkin and set the spider on the floor. We ducked many times when larger flying insects buzzed over our heads, and froze in place when bees stood on our limbs. That's all okay, it is part of the experience of dining outdoors in the wild. But having a waiter push me into accepting a drink that arrived with a medium-sized bug in it felt different. I see no reason to return to this place, mainly because everyone's cocktails were bland and the food was only okay. Maybe it was just an off night for...
Read moreIt's tucked further down a small side road. Just watch out for the small sign, turn in the unpaved road straight ahead and you'll see it. It has its own small parking lot, but plenty of space around. Looks like the kitchen is downstairs and the seating and bar is upstairs. We got seated quickly and was served three different sauces. None of it was really good to me, so we didn't use it. The servers speak a little bit of English, but not a lot. We got a mango smoothie and a mojito con fruita with passong fruit. Both were pretty good. We also ordered two tacos just to try, one pescado and one camaron. They were just okay, I think the sauce overpowered the flavor of the other ingredients. We also got the pizza as the main food to share, the Ah Valeee. It looked like it was the highlight of the menu. But we were sorely disappointed when it came out. It looked very raw and put together hastily. The cheese was barely melted and most of the pizza was just bare dough. The tomatoes were raw and it just didn't mesh together very well. Probably the worst pizza I've had in a while. Sad, we had high expectations given the...
Read moreI like this place! The atmosphere and service is top-notch!! Also, the food selection, variety of drinks and the overall quality is over the top as well! I met the owner of the establishment and he speaks superb English also. He invited me to partake upon their "newly introduced" breakfast menu and the next day, I did. Let me tell you, it was simply spectacular and another check-mark to add to their grand list of superb accomplishments! thus far! I
n addition, visit the place for sure but, go all out and make an effort to be there before evening to experience a great sunset from the panoramic deck on the second floor (where the surf-bar is located). When you do, you'll be in for a treat as you experience a very a beautiful light show of ever-changing, warm colors projected throughout the Higuera...
