I truly wish I could leave a glowing review because the villas where I stayed are beautiful, have everything you need, and the the staff were so kind, caring, and helpful throughout my stay.
And the beach club is super beautiful! The music is great, the staff are lovely and the beach is super private and just stunning!
Unfortunately, one interaction completely changed my experience and left me deeply disappointed.
After getting food poisoning from one of the dishes at the beach club, I spent almost two full days in bed during what was supposed to be a short three-night stay . When I went to speak to the manager instead of receiving empathy or even a simple apology …I was told it couldn’t have been food poisoning because another staff member had eaten “part” of my leftover dish and didn’t get sick. That I just had an upset stomach because I was European and couldn’t handle the food or the spice ( I didn’t eat anything spicy.. and had been traveling around Mexico for 3 weeks at this point and even eaten at local markets without any issue)
Anyone who understands how bacteria works knows that contamination doesn’t affect every bite equally since one portion of a dish can make a person very ill while another might not.
What shocked me most was how he repeatedly joked in front of his staff, who looked visibly uncomfortable, saying things like “Oh, she wants to take it off the bill because she almost died… what else do you want to take off the bill?,” in a sarcastic tone. It felt cruel, mocking, and deeply unprofessional. I’ve truly never wanted to leave a place sooner in my life.
He even brought up something completely unrelated …saying that someone had commented I “wasn’t smiling” at the gym and that I had a mean face. He then kept repeating to me that I needed to smile more because I was a guest doing a collaboration.
To be told that, as a woman traveling on her own & recovering from food poisoning in a foreign country I should “smile more” instead of being treated with basic respect was both inappropriate and disappointing.
To be clear: every other staff member was wonderful. They treated me with genuine kindness, helped me when I wasn’t feeling well, and made me feel seen. But the manager’s behavior…the lack of compassion and the dark sarcasm it really left a bad feeling.
I sincerely hope the management reflects on this experience and takes action so that no other guest is ever made to feel dismissed, gaslighted, or humiliated in such a...
Read moreI was staying at the main hotel and decided to give their beach club a try today. Considering El Origen Villas is 30 minutes away from Puerto, where all the restaurants are, taxis cost a range from $600-$1000 mxn one way to get to the nearest restaurants; you would think that the hotel has some solid food/drink options. Unfortunatelgy this is not the case and I highly encourage anyone staying at the hotel or coming to the beach club to consider other options before coming here.
the private beach that is promoted isnt swimmable, which means you’d be traveling all the way here just to swim in pools Food is terrible. Attached are pictures of everything we ordered because I really wanted to give them a fair chance. Kesuages, Fish pops, Tacos de camaron and nachos. [ ] Kesuages had a heavy coating of bread, tasted like it was fried in fish oil. And the bbq saude that came along with it didnt pair well. [ ] Fish pops- Fish didnt taste fresh, coating was soggy and bland [ ] Tacos de camaron were the only redeeming thing about the food. [ ] Nachos - chips tasted stale and chewy, cheese was cold and very underwhelming
Lastly service was terrible. When we walked in no one acknowledged or greeted us. I honestly felt discriminated considering we are visibly Mexican and staff ignored us for at least 10 minutes but behind us, a foreign couple walked in and TWO servers ran over with menus immediately. Meanwhile we were ignored and other servers were sitting at the bar having personal conversations and talking on their phone. When we finally got service the server could care less, wasn’t friendly or welcoming. Hospitality is clearly not a priority here.
There are so many other great beach clubs closer to puerto, that you dont have to spend extra money on taxis just to get there, where the food and service actually good than to come 30 minutes away from Puerto for bad food/service and...
Read moreThis place is beautiful and quiet. I give it 3 stars because, even though it’s advertised to also be a great place for small children, it’s not great for adults with small children.
The main pool does not allow small children. I understand why, but there isn’t an alternative pool for the adults that have small children. We went here on our anniversary and have a 4 year old. When we got there, they told us our son wasn’t allowed in the main pool and that he had to stay at the designated kids area. That’s fine. But, that also meant my husband and I had to stay in the designated kids area and only use the pool for kids, which was only waist deep for me (I am 5’6”). My son is an excellent swimmer, without floaties. So, not having a very deep pool was a bummer for all of us since we could not jump into the kids pool or anything like that. My husband and I also had to stay crouched down or walk around the pool on our knees in the water in order to be submersed.
If my husband and I wanted to go to the main pool, we would have had to go in it by taking turns, but neither of us wanted to do that since the whole point was for us to be there together to celebrate our anniversary. The kids area is too far from the main pool to be able to have let our son play in the kids area and for us to watch him while in the main pool.
Honestly, because of this, we will not be returning. They really need another normal depth pool near the kids area for the adults with small kids. That way the parents can be in a normal sized pool, relaxing a bit, while keeping an eye on their kids that are playing in the kids pool/playground area.
The food was just ok too.
If you are a family with small children, go to Club Bacocho (I think it’s also known as Villa Sol Beach Club) instead. It’s much more...
