I like the mission, ethos, and menu choices. Presentations of the dishes were beautiful. I ordered sikil pa'ak, a Yucatan dish, Guias soup, a local Oaxacan dish, and tetels de quantonil. All were prepared well with artistic presentations. Yet they were all devoid of flavor, spices, and not satisfying. The sorbet dessert was really a granita with the faintest fruit flavor. I was expecting the smash mouth intensity of Mexican gelatos. The mezcals were half ounce drinks; other restaurants served 1-2 ounces. Finally, the service was rushed. I wanted to savor my mezcals but experienced a rushed sequence of dishes. It was necessary to ask the waitress to allow a 10 minute interlude between dinner and dessert so I could enjoy another mezcal. It was early on a Saturday night; blandly prepared Oaxacan dishes, clearly a quixotic experience. I conclude that poor staff training and management are equally responsible. Why would an owner allow this? This was my worst meal during a two week trip in Mexico. Consider all of your dinner options as there are many good...

To preface, we live in Los Angeles so maybe we are a little spoiled with the vegetarian/vegan options.

Hierba Dulce has a great ambiance with a modern and clean look. The staff are attentive, friendly and provide in-depth explanations to the dishes.

The food was extremely beautiful, and made for wonderful photos but that's about as far as the positives will go. We ordered the 7 moles with mushrooms, the enchiladas and two other starters. We were unable to finish any of it as none of it was palatable. The moles were overwhelmingly earthy and the sauce just could not make up for it. The enchiladas were flavorless. The tortillas were extremely tough. The drinks and cocktails were wonderful; however, it could not make up for the meal. Unfortunately, this experience will live on as one of the worst flavor journeys we have had in Mexico. The price was the last dagger to the meal.

They have everything else lined up. They just need to figure out what to do with the flavor of the food. I would not recommend this restaurant until they revamp...

Medio raro. ¡No mames!

The worst service we've had in Mexico. The waiter was annoyed when we asked why our meals dont have the same ingredients as in the menu. She didnt even apologize, just took our soups back to the kitchen saying they will put what's missing. It did not happen. Instead, two other employees came to apologize and explained there is no mushroom season and their boss cut out sourdough balls ingredients from some dishes on the menu. Fair enough, but 1. why do you show us the old menu, 2. Why the waiter didnt tell us when we ordered? 3. Why she didnt tell us even after she brought the food and acted as if she was serving the right dish? The bodanas (slices of cucumber) with lime and salt were ridiculously thin, as well as the avocado toast we ordered. So much disappointed. Besides, what a waste of food - two dishes wasted just because the staff lacks communication skills and menus are not updated. We don't recommend to eat here.

One of our top 2 favorite vegan restaurants in Oaxaca. Uniquely "deindustrialized" Mexican food presented artfully. We went twice because it's that good. Service is friendly, fast, and very attentive. The tepache and Oaxacan chocolate were my favorite drinks. We tried most of the menu over our 2 visits and my favorite dishes were fake papatzul, enchiladas, miso soup, and ceviche. Tetelas were a cool presentation but I honestly wasn't impressed with the filling--it would be nice if they offered different filling options for these. We did not like that they burned the tortilla on the tlayuda (burnt food has carcinogens), so I would recommend trying other dishes. Otherwise, portion sizes were just right and dishes were presented at a good pace. Desserts are rich and visually appealing, you can't go wrong with any of them.

The place gets a nearly perfect score for ambience, service and ingenuity. They are completely vegetarian and have a fairly extensive selection of dishes. We chose the Mole tasting plate which allows us to sample 6 types of moles. Unfortunately we did not like any of them. I suspect it has more to do with our palate as opposed to their preparation. We tend to like food spicy, hot and crispy. There things their was not! They had an exhibition stall where a chef was preparing Tacos. Another table that showed a glimpse of the food eaten in the past 2 centuries. Both very fascinating! I rated that restaurant as 3 overall more so because the food was not to our palate. Maybe the fault is with our tastes and not the food per se. So do take this review with the liberal pinch of salt! Loved the service and the ambience!!
